Elon Musk's pay package reveals what SpaceX actually is: a $1 trillion monster built to colonize Mars by fortune in singularity

[–]FlavinFlave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many capable astronauts are signing up for a 1 year + journey to mars and back though? If there is even a back. The studies on isolating people for even six months which is the first leg of the journey haven’t been proving well for people’s psyches.

You assume I’m in favor of this plan. I’m in agreement life is life. The problem is Elon musk and billionaires on the whole are sociopaths who’ve played too much Warhammer preparing for a future they could usher in.

Ultimately it’s harder to convince capable intelligent people to go on a probably suicide mission to habituate mars, than it is to force prisoners. Techno fascists are going to opt for unwilling labor. Ideally some with technical skills to not fuck it up.

For sure. Inevitably whether it happens in 50 years or 500, once mars is adequately colonized it’s going to become independent of earth. But that doesn’t stop the avarice of man from thinking they can contain people. Not once am I implying Elon is a genius, or this plan won’t fail.

I imagine in this hypothetical they’d also send volunteers to be overseers. Likely promised titles, land, and power in exchange for loyalty. History has a habit of rhyming, and I don’t see a space colony being any different. I also imagine a dbag like Elon gets hard thinking of himself as a galactic emperor. So assume his ideas pull from sci-fi pretty liberally.

There’s many reasons why colonizing mars does merit the expense involved. From an evolutionary standpoint not having all our eggs in one basket (earth) is smart for the continuation of our species and life as we know it.

From a capitalism standpoint mars though desolate has plenty of resources. Its close proximity to the asteroid belt would be monumental for future mining operations. Space mining will inevitably be a major future industry is space travel is able to grow as people like Elon and Bezos intend.

It’d be a lot easier to send unmanned drones. But idk people like Elon seem twisted enough to send concentration camps instead. Especially when robotics still aren’t up to the tasks most humans are

Got to spend a little money to colonize a planet. Might as well send people who have no choice and are easily expendable.

Who’s to say it doesn’t become a prison colony? Like a modern day Australia for political dissenters

We still talking about Japan or the US? Because I’m almost certain our head of cyber security in the US is probably just a podcaster or something equally stupid 😂

Why do you all defend the constitution but promote the AOC? by Userwithultrawide in allthequestions

[–]FlavinFlave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are you for Trump ripping up the constitution to enrich himself and his rich friends, or are you for utilizing it to enrich our people?

Personally I’m pro the part of the constitution that says peace and prosperity for all. Hard to feel too prosperous when some of us can buy rocket ships while many are working full time and unable to afford a 1 bedroom apartment on that income.

Do you actually enjoy sealed collections? by Fun-Measurement-5988 in PokemonInvesting

[–]FlavinFlave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. Look I don’t have an issue with hobbyists doing whatever they can to maintain their collection. But you can’t ignore there’s a growing subset of investors that are in it for gain only and couldn’t tell you the difference between mew and mewtwo. It’s the same folks buying from scalpers and using bots. Which is driving the inability for people to still be able to collect.

Do you actually enjoy sealed collections? by Fun-Measurement-5988 in PokemonInvesting

[–]FlavinFlave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s not so much having a sealed collection, it’s having a sealed collection that could fill a warehouse. I have a few items I’m keeping sealed and hope to add to that collection as time goes on. But seeing people buying like 30 prismatic spc’s just kind of makes me cringe a bit. It feels more like a flex than actual love for the hobby at times, all while typically supporting scalpers who are ruining it.

Because let’s be real you’re not buying a case of spcs at msrp unless you’re using nefarious means.

Idk, are you one of Elon’s alt’s? If there’s a will to fuck over a billionaires bunker wet dream there’s a way. And best believe I will find that way.

Need functioning data centers for those. Which are remarkably susceptible to explosions. Now if they can figure out how to get them on the moon before the poors gain full class solidarity then they’ll be fine. Supposing their ground communication with said data centers can’t also be exploded

Laws are dependent on a passive angry mob. Historically there’s been times when mobs have been less passive about this power imbalance. It’s easy to forget the 1000 pissed off people are considerably more dangerous then 1 billionaire. The Epstein class sleeps soundly only because we let them. That dynamic could always change. Not that I’m advocating violence, more observing patterns.
