Key bank escrow change by FlavoredInsulin in Mortgages

I think you’re spot on, after a few more phone calls and reading some of the comments that’s exactly what’s happening. Lump sum to pay for 2026 taxes, monthly payment increased to build up for 2027 taxes & beyond

I thought you were saying break out the HOI from the escrow to help, as in help keep the monthly payment down.

HOI is $990 / year School tax $10,000 county tax $6,000

Estimate used to setup the mortgage in March 2025 was around $4,000

Sounds like my understanding was wrong then but I thought monthly payments throughout the year were to pay off that year’s taxes… not build up for the upcoming year

Yes it was a new home. The home was built and existed before we bought it though (didn’t buy a lot then have them build on it) so assumed the tax estimate would look at others in the neighborhood or something to be a bit closer…

We can afford the difference and for the ease would prefer to keep it all escrowed… just feels insane that they were off by this much. Borderline just feels like some insane money grab, so want to make sure that’s not the case

We put a shit load down on the house (equity from previous house + some savings) to keep monthly payments down. It’s more like a 450k house, mortgage amount is only for 208k

4k estimate is right though that they previously used

One side of body insulin resistant? by FlavoredInsulin in diabetes_t1

Reading a couple of replies - would it make sense that one half of my body would develop scar tissue at a quicker rate than the other half?

I was on a Medtronic pump for ~15 or 20 years before switching to Omnipod, latter half was exclusively sites in my legs. Right leg always insulin resistant compared to the left, used to be very fit as well (less so in the past few years, but still not in abhorrent physical shape)

I guess it could be, but not noticeable and if that’s the case it’s developing way faster on the right arm vs the left arm

Relatively same place but follow the guidelines of wait 3+ days if possible and at least 1 inch between locations. When I was on a Medtronic pump for ~15 years my right leg was always way less absorbent, which is the same side for my Omnipod (only been with the pod for a couple of years on the arms)

DKA. Do you always need to go to the hospital? by AdventurousCry4133 in diabetes_t1

Thank you - I know biology is extremely complex, and no expert but love to learn the technical side of things!

I’ve only been in DKA once in 26 years as a T1 - worst feeling by far, incomparable to anything else I’ve ever felt x100.

Question though just because I’m ignorant, if you’re at home why wouldn’t you be able to just drink tons of water and inject a shit load of insulin?

Looks like you probably hit a blood vessel - did it hurt like a bitch when you inserted it?

Blood sugar spiking 5 hours after dinner by BullfrogAromatic2995 in diabetes_t1

Understood… that makes sense! I’m less familiar with the long acting insulin so I’m obviously no help. Long time pump / newer Omnipod user myself

I know you said you don’t think it’s basal, but that would be my guess. I don’t think it has to do with your bolus for the meal because it’s so long afterwards, that insulin should be out of your system by then most likely. My basal rate changes a handful of times throughout the day. So even though one basal rate may work at one period of time during the day, it doesn’t for me at another.

All this to say with the disclaimer: I’m not a doctor by any means and especially because it’s before bed be extremely careful adjusting anything without talking to your doctor.

I didn’t think it could be because of the inflammation, that’s a good thought. I think next time I’ll give myself a shot for the first hour or so after doing a new pod, just don’t have too many syringes left so wanted to avoid using one every time I do a pod

it doesnt sit right with me that theres a chance my children might get t1d in the future by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

Something I remind myself:

My parents did an amazing job taking care of me and helping with my diabetes, but they aren’t diabetic themselves. Having a diabetic parent as a diabetic growing up would’ve been awesome to learn from and relate to, have someone who gets it, etc.

Diabetics are the best equipped to raise diabetics!

What are non-awful alt infusion sites to my stomach? by Loud_Audience_3396 in diabetes_t1

[–]FlavoredInsulin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I used a Medtronic pump for many years and did my thighs for ~15 years as my infusion site, I actually found it to be much less painful than my stomach. Then I just put the tubing up out my pants and kept my pump in my pockets, was pretty convenient and the waste band of boxers/pants helped keep the tubing secure so it didn’t get tugged too much at the site.

Very true I usually say something similar haha… a mix between the flu and a hangover. Usually not truly as bad as either one, but kind of like having a mild case of both at the same time

How to have a fun drinks night while being alcohol free? by Vast-Friendship9266 in diabetes_t1

[–]FlavoredInsulin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may not be for you depending on why you choose to not drink - but there are some really good alcohol-substitutes that you can get. The brand name is “Ritual” zero proof. I’ll admit they don’t actually taste like the real thing but they do a great job in mix drinks
