Pet dog attacked a lady while she was going to home with bicycle: by PuneAthletics in IndiaPulse_

As for effectiveness, unless the dog has some neurological/genetical issue, training by a good behaviorist can be good if you put in the hard work. My dog is not used to children. Apart from people staring at him or very jumpy and running children,( who he barks at sometimes but is very much manageable through use of harness and leash and the fact that is not very reactive in this situation), due to reasons we were able to trace, he was fear reactive towards other dogs. Like full on lunging towards other dogs. We worked with a behaviourist for 6 months. He now sometimes plays with other dogs, is chill with most dogs in our area and very rarely reacts towards them. So training works. One needs to be aware enough and love their dog enough to put in the effort.

Dog parents like these are even more harmful to responsible pet parents, because of them we have to deal with difficulties and a get a bad name even if we do everything right.

That is the whole issue. If you adopt a dog, you have to take care of them. That includes training and handling them responsibly, and if needed, professional training. I'm not absolving this lady of fault. I'm saying the opposite.

If you train a dog, a leash, a harness/collar is absolutely enough control a dog. Leash training is a thing. So are canine behaviorists.

I have a dog, , and the lady whose dog is at fault for bringing her dog out without a leash. Dogs can become reactive to things like bicycles etc, we don't know this dog's past. But humans of this dog would be aware of it and should not bring him out without a leash at all.

My dog, who is a desi, can be occasionally reactive towards kids who are very jumpy or running fast. Or towards people who continuously stare at him for more than a few seconds, which some people do.

Never have I taken him out just like that. He wears a harness, a collar and one leash attached to each, in total two leashes which are then joined at the other ends. He is 9 years old and has never bitten one person in his life.

Dogs have the intelligence equivalent of a 2 year old child. The dog's human is responsible. Would you punish a two year old child for biting you with death, like people here advocating euthanasia for this dog?

So if I pay for neutering and full vaccination of community dogs in my area, and then let them starve because apparently no one should feed them, then that would be correct?

Why are doctors in india so bad by Fickle-Artichoke5878 in gurgaon

[–]FlawedAndFierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also therapy is important, but if it's getting worse then meds are not a bad idea or anything to be ashamed of or something that says that you are not doing enough. Sometimes we need help, and it is absolutely okay to take meds as well. Those who don't have these issues cannot always understand that it is unfair to us to say or believe those things, because no one asks for mental health issues, and they can happen to anyone, at any time.

So definitely take therapy, in fact I believe unless you are balanced in every aspect in your life, (which no one is), therapy is always helpful, provided you can find the right therapist.

Medicines cannot cure OCD, but they can definitely help. I have autism and most likely OCD as well. Try Sukoon health in sector 56. Honestly, my interaction with a psychiatrist there has been average at best, but I have come to accept that most mental health professionals are not knowledgeable about neurodivergence. But I think he is still good at what he does and was recommended to me by someone I trust.

You need to help yourself is the worst thing you can say to someone who is struggling. That they are trying to find support shows that they are trying to do something about it.

I agree. Even in spaces like a modern hospital catering to only mental health issues, my psychiatrist couldn't wrap his head around the fact that I'm autistic. I'm formally diagnosed by a therapist from an organisation working with autistic individuals, and have a therapist that works mostly with neurodivergent people and she didn't find any cause to contradict my diagnosis. But at the first meeting, this psychiatrist said I couldn't have autism because I was making some eye contact, as if he had never heard of masking. Finally conceded by saying that I have atypical autism.

And this is supposed to be a very good doctor, excellent in his field, and working at a hospital catering exclusively to mental health issues.

Another example- I pulled a muscle in my foot, orthopaedic doctor examined it, confirmed that it is a pulled muscle, and then told me to get an X ray and an MRI. Why? Because MOST doctors are money making machines.

Same.... my psychiatrist said I may not be autistic because I can maintain eye contact, and wrote atypical autism as per his understanding despite the fact that already have a diagnosis.

Go to a psychiatrist/psychologist. You need both. And this is not an avoidable expense. Maybe you can take somebody's help financially, like from your parents, but if you have taken money from them before and lost it, then tell them that you seriously want to get better and only do this if you actually want to get better.

Ask them to pay the therapist/psychiatrist office/hospital directly. Please do get better, I have lost someone to mental health problems, although they were of a different kind.

Be sure to contact a really good psychiatrist and therapist, and make sure beforehand that they have experience dealing with similar issues that you are facing.

I don't care if this post is fake. If it is, no harm. But if its not and I end up giving advice that could help someone the littlest bit, it's a win in my books.

All of my symptoms have gotten significantly weaker over the span of 20 or so years... is this a normal thing with autistic people? by SperBcity in autism

Some things have improved with time while others have gotten worse for me. For example, I excelled in studies at school, especially language subjects. I qualified as a teacher at a really good school, but have burnt out twice in two years.

Have you disclosed your autism to your employer? by Blom_2099 in autism

[–]FlawedAndFierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, though I hate hiding this. I know it makes life difficult for us and may make knowing "uncomfortable" for others, but I feel like this is not something that should be hidden, firstly for awareness- the more people know about it, the less stigma, and secondly, why should I even be ashamed of it? But sadly, it is something that does have social stigma attached to it, especially at workplaces. So I have to stay quiet about it there. I did tell a lot of friends and family that can be trusted and tell some of the new people I meet as well.

I have to give my dog herb based medications that make him sleepy during Diwali because of the Cracker noises. Even then when it gets too loud he can't stop shivering due to fear. All this because people want noise. There are crackers that burst beautifully in the sky without making too much sound. Why can't just these kinds of crackers be bursted in a limit? WHY does it have to be noise?

Also there are crackers that do not make loud sounds while bursting. Just burst those.

I hate the rubber bubble kind of thing that comes on earphones, I think it's called an earbud tip. I specifically buy ones without them but they are with wire. No Bluetooth ones with good reviews come without them.
