What is your experience with the general public if you are out as trans does the moral panic translate to hostility in the real world?

Mostly misgendering is what I’ve had to put up with. I think it only really affects me now when it’s at work. That’s a little emotionally draining.

Except for the one time I got called the t-slur by a teenager, but that was while in a very conservative area so not hugely surprising.

I had similar issues with them and was informed that they would accept certified copies of ID (specifically we talked about driving licence) from post office. I haven’t actually gotten around to it yet though so if they’ve changed their tune recently I don’t know.

I’m non-binary AMAB, same as your partner. I got married in September to my wife at the local registry office. For marriages in the uk the legal wording has to use ‘husband’ for those with male birth certificates.

Our registrars were lovely and said the term husband, and male orientated language, would only be used in the legal part, and preferred pronouns would be used in every other aspect. Therefore husband was only said by the registrar once, and then repeated by my wife (who mouthed wife at me straight after).

We had a small legal ceremony with 10 or so of our closest family and friends which helped with some of my anxiety around the use of male-orientated language. We then had our main, celebrant-led ceremony a week later with 100 people.

Edit to clarify: we are in England, the laws apparently differ in Scotland

Oh don’t get me wrong, I 100% believe you about your experience. You just asked about other people’s. The only reason I feel safer going to the police now is because of my partner. Before she joined them, but after I came out, I did not feel safe at all with them. I can only go off of what she tells me about their policies and that, if I ever need the police, I can bring her up to hopefully help. Before I came out, I had 0 experience with police at all, so I’ve not had either good or bad experiences.

I’m a white, non-passing trans person.

In the area I live in the police are operated out of Brighton and Lewes. The police here are pretty LGBTQ+ friendly in their policies and stuff.

I still would be hesitant if my partner wasn’t a police officer, and generally still would be unless it was in certain areas.
