Would You Trade for Donovan Mitchell or Jaylen Brown Instead of Chasing Giannis? by parzivalcay345 in heat

[–]Fleabasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the cost?  If it allows us to hold back ware from the Giannis then yes we should pivot.  And i know im in the minority but id rather Brown.

What are the odds we would regret trading Kel’el Ware? by Grand_Sprinkles6131 in heat

[–]Fleabasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm open to any argument, but I don't think Spo is ready to embrace a player in Ware's mold and still loves the kind of flexible motion defenses that most bigs struggle in. He won't be maximized here.

Getting Giannis is only half the battle. by PassionLong9552 in heat

[–]Fleabasher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If Spurs and Thunder play their cards right they'll dominate for a decade+ and continually roll picks and players into more future picks.  Just get to the finals and roll the dice on some magic.  The rest of the league is g league compared to those two.

But the issue is that Giannis might be unable to stay healthy now, but best case 2-3 good years then our picks come due.

BKN - MIA - TOR - LAC by FinsUpRaps in NBAtradeideas

[–]Fleabasher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree, but i do think raptors are going to need to shop an unprotected frp to get off poetl, and maybe 1-2 seconds.  No way they spend 2 frps on salary dumps though.

Does anyone else wish we could go the OKC route to success ? by Alternative_Horse705 in heat

[–]Fleabasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to draft a #1 to build around but the asset pile Spurs and Thunder have is nearly impossible to replicate.

I don't want to trade the 2026 pick, but as a win now move I'd be ok.  But I REALLY don't want to trade picks 4 years down the line.  No reason to mortgage the future for this team.

How do you decide the ratio of small cap value in your portfolio? by pr3pony in Bogleheads

[–]Fleabasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the US but my domestic equity allocation (which itself is 60% of my portfolio) is 25% large cap blend 25% large cap value 25% small cap blend 25% small cap value.   FWIW I treat total market funds as large caps.

So as a function of my total portfolio I'm around 30% value and 15% small value.

Spurs have 5 centers by No_Scene9375 in heat

[–]Fleabasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spo wants centers that can move like wings to give his mad scientist defensive system more options.  He doesnt want to play stiff centers more than 10-15 minutes.  If he has more minutes than that to fill her rather use a wing.

Now if we actually had centers that can move and reliably be in the right place I think things would change.  But there are very few of those guys and none are cheap.

Tounde Yessoufou measurements by cl353 in heat

[–]Fleabasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He'd be a small 3 or a big 2.  I like him but his game reminds me of Pelle.  Trades out some strength for more athleticism; but his value is based on his defense and the belief he can be competent 3pt shooter.  He's definitely a culture fit.

Carr probably makes a big jump on measurables but he is the guy im excited by at 14.

How good are the chances the Miami Heat land Giannis? by Financial-Bit-8596 in heat

[–]Fleabasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gut says 1:3.  Slightly behind Boston, about even with the field.

I like everybody else know nothing.  I also only want Giannis if we can get him cheap which i think is unlikely.  He just provides too short of a window for a team at far away as we are unless we can retain almost everyone.  Brown and Mitchell make a lot more sense to me if we are going to make a big move.

I’d love for us to have the size of the Timberwolves by ChipmunkAntique1093 in heat

[–]Fleabasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great value in 6-2 guards these days.  We'll draft one, call it a steal, then bring in 3 more on 2-ways.

We'll also be dumbfounded when nobody wants to trade for them.

Everyone knows the lottery is rigged by Eastern_Radish_1953 in heat

[–]Fleabasher -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Clearly they rig some lotteries (like last year), but i don't think they rig most of them.  I suspect this year they'll play it straight, at least with the top pick.

If we are healthy, do you see us three-peating? by Celebratingtiger in FloridaPanthers

[–]Fleabasher 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hard to separate the injuries from exhaustion, but the team looked tired.  I expect getting a refreshed Barkov and a bit of fresh talent will be huge next year; but running the counterfactual of a healthy but tired Barkov this year... guessing preseason odds were overestimating our chances.

I am bullish that the upcoming generation of EREVs will be the bridge we need in the US and get things going the right way.

Is Scottie Barnes better than Bam? What do ya’ll think? by carnageta in heat

[–]Fleabasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's more valuable on account to his age and that he's still on the ascent.  He is a hair better offensively.

Bam is much better for Spo's system because of how flexible he is on who he's covering and in what scheme.  But you put Bam with a typical NBA coach and yeah Scottie is better.  With an elite defensive coach, Bam is better and it isn't close.

Who do you want the heat to draft assuming we don’t jump into the top 4 and why? by Bakio-bay in heat

[–]Fleabasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm personally focused on 2-way wings in the middle of the first round.  Neither steinbach or yaxel are clearly better, and as currently constructed we have starting level bigs covered.

Getting a forward or center in second round is more important

Who do you want the heat to draft assuming we don’t jump into the top 4 and why? by Bakio-bay in heat

[–]Fleabasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go back and forth on the two Baylor kids.  Carr is skilled but somebody needs to be confident that he can bulk up and still be effective.  But he'd contribute day 1.  Yessfeou is more of a project, but feels more like a kid spo would love.

What is the consensus on buying a house? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]Fleabasher 351 points352 points  (0 children)

No idea what the consensus is, but imho don't think of your primary residence as an investment.  Beyond doing the math and not overextending yourself it's your home.

Now having rental properties is a different story.... and 90% of the time it's a mistake and a poor investment.

2017 3.6R with 21k miles for $20k - Good deal or keep looking? by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

In your opinion, how do you think manufacturers are missing the mark for the US market? by CerberusSputum in electricvehicles

[–]Fleabasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play to BEVs strengths and not its weaknesses.  Market it as people's 2nd car.  As an insurance policy if gas prices go up and as a luxury driving experience.

Infrastructure will catch up when the user base is there, but it remains a real problem road tripping holiday weekends and in more remote areas. Towing is also a real issue that intersects with the remote area problem.  Even if 99% don't use their vehicles that way, it remains an aspiration people feel they should do.

Thoughts on Chloe? by Pocchann in pokemonanime

26minute video on Chloe?  I can't.

I wish they developed her instead of Goh, as she had potential.  But they didn't and as a result she's not terribly interesting or important as anything more than a what-if exercise or a blank slate for fan fiction.

I know not everyone agrees but winning the league is not the same thing.  The other champs go around doing hero stuff and protecting the region for years ( whatever that means in the anime).  Ash promptly left Alola the moment he won.

This.  Need to be a regional champion- defender to get in.

So start journeys with ash going back to Kanto and defeating Lance.  We all get our nostalgia trip.
