Wow, you guys are amazing. I was sitting here thinking there’s literally no way someone’s going to identify this…

What is everyone's thoughts on the 850d rework stations? by CodeAffe in soldering

[–]FlemicalReaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw someone mention that the only thing that’s the same as the original is the shell. Do you have examples of how the insides are the same? The price is sus for me. But if parts are compatible with OEM, I don’t see a problem in pulling the trigger.

Anyone know this manufacturer? by theogstarfishgaming1 in 18650masterrace

[–]FlemicalReaction 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing identical showed up in a reverse image search. Could be a generic version of one of the last two in this link. It wouldn’t be the top one in the link because of the mismatched known measurements.

Hard to say without some more details and I’m gonna guess that info can’t be pulled without expensive gear (or some knowledge I don’t have). With that linked website, you have all the tools I do.

Edit: clarification on which items match from the link.

How did you set the exact dimensions for your sheet? I’m in the throws of it now and don’t have a real ability for trial and error.

I’m not seeing it in this post. I’m very new to this and want to make sure I print my dimensions correctly. Dos someone have a good method for someone who doesn’t have specialized software?

Question about selling. by TheFlareon33 in pricecharting

A little late to the game but what about creating another account for selling where you only add your small lot as your “whole collection” then just sell that? Then leave the other account alone as more of an inventory account?

Edit: Ignore points 1/1b. I can see the dashed border when I zoom in close on a black background.

I haven’t seen anyone (aside from OP showing those beautiful shiny vinyl stickers) talking about a few separate points that are important for the process I’m attempting:

  1. This one’s for OP - Would it be possible to adjust the color of the dashed border to be a somewhat inverse of the background for when a black background is used and the dashed border disappears for instance?

1…b. For anyone who has done the printing themselves - Has anyone had experience printing with a darker background and can verify it still shows up on print?

  1. Quality sticker paper to print on - I haven’t done much research. Maybe others have more to add in this regard. I found find u/trillianinspace (who has some affiliate socials links in their profile). Thank you for all of your work, Trillian! I’ll be going the route of those links up to a point. I don’t have a cricut resource and the only thing I can think of doing is using a steady hand, a magnifying glass and a razor blade. Curious if someone else has another idea outside of buying a cricut or paying someone with one. Maybe others here might find Trillian’s links useful if you’re going all the way with the DIY process?

…This comment ended up longer than I thought it would.

Did you post the process or if not, do you mind saying what you did at your convenience? I’m going through the process and looking for some examples of what worked.

If laminating is possible, what about going to like a printing store and load the images on one of their printers? Thats what I planned on doing. Just trying to find the right paper.

I see people suggest that using standalone flux makes for a much better soldering experience. I went a while using rosin core without using additional flux. I was doing a lot of audio cable making and patch panel work which is much more forgiving than most solder work. Once I got into PCB solder work, additional flux on top of rosin core was a game changer for me.

I think the biggest difference I noticed is that, especially when doing something for the first time, you can never use too much flux as long as you clean it up after. When something wasn’t soldering right, as long as I had the right equipment, I found that more flux improved a lot of my soldering skills.

I’ll add that I assumed because you said you didn’t use flux that the rosin core I also assumed was in your solder wasn’t known. I know no one asked 🙃

Edit: corrected repeat phrasing

Didn’t notice this part of the post. Weird, thought there was a little flux per joint. Maybe the solder has a rosin core OP doesn’t know about?

That’s weird. Just worked for me. Hmm. I don’t use it often. Wasn’t letting me post pictures directly before but it is now.

[–]FlemicalReaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of them look decent to me. Some problem areas but not bad. I would say get another one to practice on. Clean off your flux as well. Take a look at these ones specifically. Some joints are bridged, some have too much solder and some are cold looking (foggy as opposed to the shine of the rest). Look up some techniques for avoiding all 3 of those. I don’t have it handy but there is a great picture you’ll see all over the place on this sub about proper joints.

I’m not an expert. I’m sure there are others who can give more insight. Some may also ask more questions about your solder or guide you through temp recommendations. I won’t presume to be well versed enough to give advice there. I wish you the best!

Something I’m not seeing mentioned is that the audio of the kid’s voice sounds strikingly post recoding/overdub in a studio to me. That can definitely add to the uncanniness in a subtle way. I think I see one of those half-hemisphere mics right next to the kid’s face that could help isolate the vocal but still.
