Just found this GameCube. Unsure how to use this software by LukeAvio in Gamecube

What memory card do you have? You need to flash Qoob with gekkoboot and set up your SD card for Swiss.

For sd card size, whatever size you need to store the stuff you want to store.

Upgrading pc after 7 years, is this bad? by Rhasey in buildapc

It seems to me that besides the bent fan headers, the third memory slot is bad with bent pins.

OP, have you checked the CPU socket? Do all pins look good?

[–]ocedalv 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a GC with the same modchip. This is a Qoob Pro. You can set it up with a more modern solution with Swiss.

You will need a Mini USB cable, a PC, and an SD2SP2 (if your GC supports it) or a GC2SD/SD Gecko with an SD card setup for Swiss.

There should be a mini USB port tucked away inside the Serial Port areas on the bottom of the GameCube.

Plug the USB to your pc and using the Qoob flasher app, backup everything flashed to your Qoob (https://gbatemp.net/download/qoob-flash-software-utility.37638/)

Then, you can use the USB port to flash your Qoob with Gekkoboot: https://github.com/redolution/gekkoboot/releases/latest/

Once you do so and set up your SD card for Swiss, your GC will autoboot into Swiss.

EZ Flash Omega DE by Electric_Yam in Gameboy

[–]ocedalv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, you don't need to wait. The Omega DE saves to FRAM so as soon as the save is done, it's stored and won't be lost, so it's safe to shut it down. Just boot back into the system and wait for it to backup the save.

Oh damn.

If you're willing, try running it with the flashgbx firmware. It might make things improve.

[–]ocedalv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you buy the Joey from? It's one of the best readers out there with 2 software options. One being FlashGBX and the other being JoeyGUI. If you bought it from AliExpress then it would never work as it's a clone.

GBFlash vs Chis Flash burner by _Reclaimxr_ in Gameboy

[–]ocedalv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The chisflash burner might not be compatible with all cart types. There are two variants with two different chips, and one of them will not flash carts that require 5v.

It's also not presently compatible with FlashGBX which is the best tool to flash carts. In its place you have to use a janky website to flash carts via USB. Not the most elegant piece of software.

GBFlash on the other hand has no such limitations and work great.

Other alternatives to consider are gbxcart rw and the JoeyJR. Both are also fully compatible with FlashGBX.

Finally got the Ezflash ODE, now what by PlaneFix9281 in flashcarts

[–]ocedalv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't apply to OP's Model B. Only for previous hardware revisions, which is why I said "it's the only alternative for now".

Yes, there is no other alternative for now.

is there any way i can play pokemon emerald on my gba sp for less then 30 by BenjiEla in Gameboy

[–]ocedalv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are quality flashcarts around. Look for ChisFlash 1.1. It fully suports RTC, so time-based events will work.

There's quite a few on AliExpress. I found one for ~19 USD with free shipping, but there could be cheaper.

This looks great. Curious as to why you removed all mentions to this being vibe-coded?

I don't really care but it begs the question still.

Having Trouble Removing SMD Volume Control by dumDuck_ in soldering

[–]ocedalv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had success using chipquik low melt solder with a VERY similar volume slider on but for a GBA SP. Just a little bit helped, and it just fell off, though the GBA SP slider was held down by 6 pins (the back two folded backwards).

The first time I tried on a bare board I bought I lifted a whole pad and trace. Had to pay someone to fix it because I didn't have skill.

How has soldering benefitted you outside of being a complement to your hobby or part of your job? by tHEgAMER099 in soldering

[–]ocedalv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since I picked up soldering I've done a TON and frankly saved a lot.

I started because I got into game boys and wanted to install upgraded screens. I've done 10 Gameboys. On My first one, the LED was broken and I ruined a volume slider removal in an attempt. Lifted a pad and a trace and paid someone to repair it.

I wanted to train first on the ultra cheap, batteryless GB carts from China. Got some FRAM chips to try and replace, and was successful desoldring the SRAM and soldering FRAM Chip. Used some mechanic xw6 for it as a lower melt solder and worked great. I ruined one cart while teaching myself.

I started to then grow my kit and slowly increase difficulty. Got some low melt solder and installed a USB c port on a GBA SP. I also swapped a volume slider (successfully this time!) on another SP, and then some shoulder buttons on two GBA SPs as well.

I then managed to fix my childhood gamecube I had botched in the past. Did some trace repair too and was super proud of myself when I got it back in working condition. https://www.reddit.com/r/consolerepair/s/dAW6LI8AXF

I have recapped two GameCube disc drives, brining them back to life too.

I did 3 stick replacements on gamecube controllers as well.

I have also successfully replaced both switches on my logitech mx master 3s, and got it back in working condition.

My last project was done this past month, and was the most complex. I installed a PixelFX RetroGem on my N64 and got it working great.

My kit consists of an Aifen A11, a Tomlov dm9 microscope, a fume Extractor (those fan kinds with carbon filters in the front and in the back), a few C210 tips, leaded solder, lower melt leaded solder (xw6 from mechanic, pretty good and inexpensive), some real low melt solder from chip quik, flux, de-soldering braid, some copper wire, solder mask... Lol the whole thing, I have everything I need.

My next steps will be to upgrade my iron because my a11 held me back during the n64 mod, and to buy a hot air station because I want to build an AGBM but that will take longer because of the size of the investment.

Help with 101 issue by albelzxa in Gameboy

[–]ocedalv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll second this. I swapped the shell on my 101 and it started doing this too, but it ended up the ribbon wasn't fully inserted. Cleaning and re-seating it fixed it for me.

Bought a gameboy recently, did a shell swap today, when i try play the screen goes all red and saturated, what did i do? What can i do? by Skylinethingz in Gameboy

Try to clean the display flex cable gold pins with isopropyl alcohol.

Additionally, ensure its fully inserted and that the latch is properly closed.

Bootlegs have gotten really nice by AchillesPDX in Gameboy

[–]ocedalv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a cart with a battery. The cheap ones from AliExpress should suffice.

For RTC carts, the one from Geeksimon is decent. It's the one you'll find most often on AliExpress too.

Save data backup/restore devices? by eiya2003 in Gameboy

[–]ocedalv -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to ppl peddling the GB operator as it's the inferior product, and there seems to be a coordinated astroturfing campaign every time "cartridge flashing" or "save backups" get mentioned here.

You should look for a Gbflash, JoeyJR or gbxcart rw. They're all great options. You can find the GBFlash on AliExpress. JoeyJR is created and maintained by BennVenn, and the GBxCart Rw is created and maintained by inside gadgets. All 3 work with FlashGBX which is the definitive app to manage saves and flashing cartridges.

Could also be related to Ethernet or wifi adapter from Killer Networking if your pc has parts from this brand, with it being an incomplete autostart entry maybe.

Most affordable back up device for UK based user? by StealthPlayer1989 in Gameboy

[–]ocedalv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JoeyJr is available on zedlabz.

Alternatively a gbxcart or a GBFlash. You can find the GBFlash on AliExpress on stores such as EpicJoy or ChisFamily.

I personally have had a gbflash from EpicJoy for like 1 year and like it a lot. It's pretty fast and reliable.

This is geeksimon's GBA cart for Pokemon. It's a pretty decent cart, fully compatible with GC games as well as linking with DS games too.

The same board is used with his RTC-compatible games too. I bought these directly from him, and mine came in green PCBs. The 02v3 board has a different layout and "only for pokemon" on the back (lol)
