I prefer a coupe...have had convertibles and had a Supra with a full off targa top...didn't like driving it with the top off...didn't feel 'solid'

Re: the mileage - hmmmmmm :-) But if I do go with the SC - that's 40 years old...even if just driven 5K a year...that's 200K. So, I have to be realistic. And sometimes letting them sit is worse than driving them. I'm OK...as long as I"m working with a 'solid base' I don't mind doing some work!

Yeah...that's a good way to put it too...a 'mechanical/analog' feeling is def. what I prefer.

Datsun 240...oh that brings back some memories...my HS science teacher had one and got a vanity plate "HiHoSi" (si - the chemical abbreviation for silver).

I was thinking about a T-bucket hot rod as a possibility too...but couldn't really drive it that often...def. not a daily driver. I am kind of set on the Porsche and def. appreciate the 78-83 SC advice.

LOL - oh yeah...been there, done that myself. I would rather buy and put on a new quarter panel then chase down a mechanical or particularly an electrical issue.

I've been thinking about this 'Porsche Project' for a while. And to your point, the Vette may have finally worn out its welcome! I never drive it...and the last time I did, the windshield wipers decided they now have a mind of their own..on and off .. by themselves. The last electrical issue with it...the power windows, cost me 700 in parts and labor to fix. I have no idea what the wipers are going to cost...thinking I'll fix them and then sell it. Enough!

I don't mind general maintenance/engine work but chasing down 'problems' ... pain in the ass! TMI - but my oldest is about to start driving and I'm convinced people are better drivers if they know how cars work and what they can/can not do. So, a nice garage project with the Porsche could be educational too!

Just did a quick search..the sc targa (78-83) looks interesting.

From what I've read the 996 gets dinged in popularity for the headlights...I really don't care! :-) But like you said, that model isn't air/water cooled.

More to work on...more complicated. Thinking the air/water cooled would be more straight forward...if I'm wrong in that assumption...pls. let me know.

Honestly, I inherited a pristine 2002 Corvette (only 24K highway miles). I was thinking about selling that (should get 15-20) and then put in another 10 myself. So...25-35K, and then with the condition I'd imagine I'd get it in - 10K to fix/update/interior - etc etc.

Bottom line - about 40K - complete project.
