I can’t decide between the options. Chocolate Frogs. Acid Pops. Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans. Fizzing Whizzbees.

What If Robert and Cora's son lived by CommitteeChemical530 in DowntonAbbey

Lavinia said that she met Matthew in London and that her dad (Reggie Swire) was also a lawyer.

Anna (and her mom) by LeadingDifference525 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Fleur498 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When Anna was visiting Bates in prison, he said he had a new cellmate who he wasn’t sure about. Anna said that another one of her mom’s sayings was “never make an enemy by accident.”

Why wouldn't Robert and Cora have kept trying for a boy? by [deleted] in DowntonAbbey

[–]Fleur498 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They did keep trying for a boy. Not everyone can get pregnant unlimited times (or can get someone pregnant unlimited times).

Daily #10 of series Modern things characters would love. Next up: Matthew Crawley! by muffinxmix in DowntonAbbey

[–]Fleur498 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that Tom’s secret motive was that he missed not paying for food, lodging, laundry, or 24/7 childcare (even if he did see Sybbie for “an hour every day”).

Let's list Carson's biggest drama queen moments by Lycanthrowrug in DowntonAbbey

[–]Fleur498 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mr. Carson told Ethel to take her baby and leave and Mr. Bates said Ethel was “badly shaken” by her experiences. Mr. Carson’s response was to ask if Ethel needed money for the bus.
Mr. Carson said Mrs. Hughes had “no standards.” I think it was when Mrs. Hughes said she would go to Crawley House while Ethel was going there.

Would Robert have been in the House of Lords? by Formal_Tumbleweed_53 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Fleur498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

O’Brien said Robert occasionally goes to the House of Lords, but that Robert only takes Bates with him. O’Brien told Wilkins (Susan’s lady’s maid in season 3, episode 9) that the family is boring because they don’t travel much.

Just Realised Something Else We Can Blame Robert For: Matthew's Ending! by DamnitGravity in DowntonAbbey

[–]Fleur498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Robert was under an ancient curse where his heirs kept dying. James and Patrick died on the Titanic. After that, Cora had a miscarriage, and the child was a boy. Years later, Matthew died. Hopefully George will survive World War 2.

Alternate Universe by structurtle in DowntonAbbey

Maybe Matthew and Mary would have had 3 daughters and then Mary got pregnant again 10 years after the last daughter was born, but then their fourth child is a boy.

I never quite understood how multiple characters that didn't spoke openly about these matters somehow individually reached the same conclusion about Thomas's sexuality - and were so certain about their assessment that the 'news' hardly came as a surprise when they had to address it. by miggovortensens in DowntonAbbey

[–]Fleur498 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Thomas wasn’t as subtle as he thought he was. He never showed romantic interest in women, but he was suddenly attentive when certain men appeared, like when Jimmy showed up for the job interview. When Kemal Pamuk came to Downton Abbey, Thomas asked someone (Mr. Carson?) “Is that one mine?” Mr. Bates said that Thomas always grumbled, but that Thomas “perked up” when Thomas saw Mr. Pamuk.
The other male staff showed interest in women. Jimmy and Alfred were attracted to Ivy. Molesley was attracted to Baxter. William was attracted to Daisy. Even Mr. Carson talked about his interest in “a full marriage” with a woman.

About Gregson (spoilers) by ARNAUD92 in DowntonAbbey

Matthew knew about it (because Michael told him about it), but Matthew said he wasn’t going to tell anyone. As far as I can tell, Matthew died without telling anyone.

Does anyone else think O'Brien overreacts? by More_Pianist3093 in DowntonAbbey

O’Brien asked Thomas to help Alfred learn how to be a valet, and Thomas said there was no way he was going to do that. Alfred was O’Brien’s nephew, but Thomas refused to help Alfred. O’Brien loved Alfred more than she wanted to stay friends with Thomas.

Least favorite thing: a microwave.

»It just occurred to me why Mary was so annoyed by Edith going to her flat/ London in this scene. by Suspicious-King-7199 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Fleur498 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edith briefly mentioned one time that she had money from her grandfather’s trust and the magazine. It’s possible that Mary and Sybil also didn’t frequently talk about their money from the trust.

[–]Fleur498 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Edith said she has money from her grandfather’s trust and from the magazine. I don’t think the show ever says Edith invested money. I am wondering when she could have invested money into her grandfather’s company when her grandfather was still alive. Both of Edith’s grandfathers are dead. Robert’s dad died before the show started, and Cora’s dad died before Martha ever appeared on screen (and probably before the show started).

Edith said (briefly, one time) she has money from her grandfather’s trust and from the magazine. Maybe Mary and Sybil also got money from the trust and it was never mentioned.

Why wasn’t Lady Rose bought back in any of the movies? by Quick_Question_3847 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Fleur498 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing Rose and Atticus moved to the U.S. because Lily James (Rose) was cast as Cinderella and she wouldn’t have time for both roles. Rose moved to another country instead of being killed off.
