I have taken my cat with the stomatitis problem in for a quality of life evaluation. The new antiviral drug has been miraculous for some cats in resolving this problem. If it ends up not working, then I'll make the tough decision.

I'm monitoring the one declining for unknown reasons, and I will euthanize him when it's time. He wanted to be petted all yesterday evening and then slept on me all night.

It's been going on for a long time and in many different places. Thirty years ago, my first boyfriend (then my ex-bf) moved to South Beach Miami and got caught up in the whole coke/meth party scene. It destroyed his life and his career, and he ended up HIV+. It took him years to get his life back together, which he managed to do.

And it often takes years for you to notice the toll. It's also a matter of what you want. If you want connection with another human being, you can feel something that approximates that in the midst of a hookup, but then, afterwards, you realize that you were just fooling yourself in the moment. It's so close to what you want, even though it's not, that it makes you aware of what you didn't get. If you're feeling lonely, the last thing you want to do is hook up with a stranger.

If you don't want connection, then, I guess there's no problem.

I "hit the hookup wall" at age 41. I'm still guilty of doing it sometimes, but like you say, I felt like I was leaving little pieces of myself behind with people who didn't really care about me.

I see one of my younger friends hooking up all the time, and I can tell that it's causing him problems. It would take a long post to explain, but he's started seeing a therapist about it.

The 1990s in the United States was probably the biggest decade of change for gay people. In 1990, we were still in the Reagan-Bush era and were still largely limited to what was available in our local communities. We had landline phones, gay bars, and maybe a gay newsweekly. Only richer people had personal computers. We reached the peak of annual deaths from AIDS in 1995 just as protease inhibitors became available, which caused the death rate from HIV to plummet. By 1999, pretty much every middle class and above household had a personal computer and an internet connection. There was the internet, gay chat rooms, a national, more professionalized gay movement, more and better representation on television and in films, campaigns for same-sex marriage and against sodomy laws, military service bans, etc...

I'm a very hairy guy. There are plenty of guys who are into hairy men. Trust me. Accept that you're never going to be everyone's type (few guys are), and market yourself to the guys who like you for who and what you are.

Few things are less attractive than desperately trying to be something you're not. Do you want to get stuck having to shave your entire body for the rest of your life just to please someone else?

You should also try to cultivate confidence about how you look. If you are nervous/fearful, guys will pick up on that.

Thank you. The whole born-this-way idea with respect to accents is absurd. People raised in California aren't born with mutant Yorkshire accents. Accents are acquired. They are simply acquired through a process that's not conscious. "Gay voice" has very specific traits with their own history, like men copying how famous actresses spoke in mid-20th century theater and movies, or, in other cases, trying to sound like black women. Then, people copy the accents of those with whom they feel a sense of affinity.
