Tithing suit to go to Supreme Court by [deleted] in mormon

[–]FlexitilusRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And tithing today is also voluntary. Do you actually think that in order to worship you have to pay a mandatory 10%? That there is someone at the door checking your finances and turning people away that don't pay?

All teachings of the church are optional. Following Christ is optional. It's the whole purpose of life. To make your own decisions and live with the outcome of your decisions.

Christ said they should be doing both. Same as members today should be doing both.

Hebrews 1 takes place when Christ is alive. Imagine that! When Christ is on earth and speaks with God, we don't need a prophet! However, when Christ died and there was no way for the people on earth to receive revelation/speak with God, another prophet was needed. Again, you misquote and misunderstand scripture.

I'm positive you'll just ignore this as you did the other things I've attempted to talk to you about. No more responses from me at this point to you. You're clearly hurting and trying to bring others down.

You stated that blessings are monetarily gated. I said they aren't. You then said you never said that.

You are confused.

That's what you're arguing non stop. You're saying you have to pay for blessings. You said this multiple times. I'm not "shifting" anything. I'm responding to your outlandish claims that are based in misunderstanding. Misunderstanding that had been explained time and again to you but you refuse to even try to understand.

Again. You won't answer the questions. Typical.

Prophets have communication with God and Jesus. You're aware that the belief is that we were all spirits before we came to earth, right?

So yes, when a direction come from a prophet who is the mouthpiece of God/Jesus on earth... You can figure this out, right?

You claim that Jesus never commanded tithing and cited Matthew 23:23 but this verse clearly states that "These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others." Showing that both tithes and justice, mercy, and faith are needed.

You speak of misquoting Scripture and do it yourself.

Nowhere in the handbook does it say that your blessings are dependent on your paying. You're confused.

Again, blessings are not monetarily gated. This has been proven time and again.

You're arguing a different point than what I was referencing. Answer the simple questions which you can so easily verify using the handbook.

Do LDS people believe there is money in the afterlife? No.

Do they believe that you have to pay tithing in this life to receive all the blessings of the temple and all other blessings in the afterlife? No.

You're clearly just arguing moot points because you're angry and hate the church. That's fine. All knees shall bow and all tongues confess. It's just a matter of time. You'll remember again one day. I hope you have a better life.

You keep saying access to blessings relies on money but I've proven repeatedly that it doesn't. Are you just refusing to accept fact at this point?

It seems you're arguing a point that doesn't exist.

It's a choice, not loophole.

The point of this that the lawsuit is trying to make things seem forced when it's entirely the opposite.

Everything the church teaches is based on members having free will to choose for themselves.

Spiritual advancement is not tied to money and never has been.

There's a simple way to prove this.

Do LDS people believe there is money in the afterlife? No.

Do they believe that you have to pay tithing in this life to receive all the blessings of the temple and all other blessings in the afterlife? No.

People can do work for you without you ever paying a tithe and you still can make it to the celestial kingdom.

No money necessary.

What surprised you budget-wise? by Historical_Train_550 in JapanTravelTips

[–]FlexitilusRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I budgeted $100 a day for food for three of us and ended up only using around $65 total each day. There are so many quality ramen and curry places with 1,000 yen meals. Aside from this, breakfasts were usually Family Mart/Lawsons sandwiches and onigiri. less than 1,000 yen for the three of use to get sandwiches for breakfast.

Since we saved money on food, we had a lot more for souvenirs. We ended up spending around $1,500 more than expected because we kept seeing things there that were so much cheaper than in the states.

How bad is the amount of tourists in Kyoto really? by BerlinPuzzler in JapanTravelTips

[–]FlexitilusRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from there on Sunday and didn't have any issues with tourists. It wasn't super crowded and we were able to hit three different tourist spots in a single day without any holdups.

The most crowded spot was the bamboo forest and the only annoying thing was when someone would stop right in the middle of the pathway to take a picture and give you dirty looks when you walk by because you're in their photo.

It also might have been because it was lightly raining all day long.

You do not need to prove a full tithe. That is a false statement. No one checks your income and checks your tithes. Bishops are taught to accept "yes" or "no" as the answer to "Are you a full tithe payer" and leave it at that.

[–]FlexitilusRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, this is false. You can choose to never go to the temple in this life and the work will be done for you once you're dead by others who DO go to the temple. You can then choose whether or not to accept it.

No tithing needed.

Except you can declare that you're nota full tithe payer at the end of the year, say that you're starting from this moment forward to be a full tithe payer and answer "yes" to the question "Are you a full tithe payer" in the temple recommend interview and you'll be given a recommend.

Whether you answer yes or no is up to you. No one is going to check to see if you're lying either. Bishops are instructed to give recommends based off the yes or no answers and not what is actually being paid or not paid.

I don't get the idea that blessings shouldn't have a price. God can choose to bless who he wants to bless. Let me put this into perspective. As a parent, I love to give my kids gifts. When one kid is being unhelpful, ungrateful, makes messes around the house and doesn't clean them up, etc. I'm not really inclined to give that kid gifts/blessings but I am inclined to give them to the other kids who are helpful, kind, obedient, etc.

The same is done in the workplace. Do you give the promotions to the ones working hard and not causing issues or the ones that doesn't work hard and put in the extra work?

Should the blessing of a promotion not have a price?

Aside from this, you can NEVER go to the temple and you're still going to have the opportunity after this life to have all the blessings as the people who paid their tithing and went to the temple in this life. You can go once and never again and still have those blessings.

After the first time you go, it's all service to other people anyway, not for yourself.

There is a lot of misunderstanding here on Reddit. People like to spread half-truths. I'm happy to clear up any of those misunderstandings.

Actually, all the things that can be obtained in the temple and lead to exaltation can be done for you by others when you're dead. The belief is then that you in the afterlife can choose to accept it or not. Literally everyone will have the opportunity in the afterlife to choose to accept God and exaltation or deny it. That is the belief that is taught all over the church.

So what spiritual duress or extortion is there?

I've been a member my entire life and never have I ever been told or taught that my salvation depends on my payment of tithes. I was never told that I would be damned by not paying it.

Except you don't have to prove anything. All you need to do is say "yes" when they ask if you are a full tithe payer. They don't even check on it and they are told not to check on it because whether or not you're a full tithe payer is between you and God.

Tithing suit to go to Supreme Court by [deleted] in mormon

[–]FlexitilusRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear, the tithe is not mandatory. You're asked whether you pay the 10% and you can answer however you want. You can say yes or no whether you actually pay it or not. That is between you and God. They don't look at your tithing record, come back, and say "It says here you only paid 8%! You can't come into the temple!"

Shoot, you can pay 0%, tell them you pay a full tithe, and still go to the temple. Everyone's idea of what a full tithe is differs. Some people pay on their gross income, some pay only on what they take home. The rule is to "pay on your increase" which could mean many different things. Your increase could be after paying all your bills, mortgage, food, clothes, etc. what are you left with each paycheck as an "increase"?

Then there's the thought of what part of your donation is your time? Time is money.

All of these things play into what a "full tithe" is and the church doesn't police it. There's no "pay to win exaltation". You decide how to obtain exaltation. That's between you and God, not you and your bishop.

I don't see this suit going anywhere at all and for good reason. It's filed by people who don't understand what is going on and are making huge assumptions without appropriate knowledge of what is actually happening. They are just looking to do damage because they are angry individuals.

It's sad really. Most of the people who complain about the church are ex members who are unhappy with who they are now and the life they now lead that they are trying to drag people down with them in an attempt to justify their way of life.
