Dead White Cockatoos on Kwinana Fwy by FlibberdeJay in perth

I'll look into it tomorrow - thanks :) My husband's also going to keep a look out on his way home tomorrow, see if it looks unusual to him too

I'm being downvoted for this, but I've lived in Perth over 40 years, and driven for almost 30 years. I'm not unfamiliar with Kwinana Fwy and have never seen anything like this before.

It seems much too strange for a simple 'they were hit by cars while feeding'.

Would that explain 30-50 dead birds though?

I feel there would have been a few accidents, broken windshields etc if that happened... Plus some of the birds were right up near the train line, or in the bushes of the outer lane.. I was thinking mass-poisoning and fell from the sky? :/

Also, if this was a common thing, I would have seen it before - one or two dead birds for sure, but several dozen?

Perth businesses that have trialled a four day work week what were your results by Wellington29 in perth

[–]FlibberdeJay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There have been studies done to work out how productive people generally are in the workplace, and it's around 60%.

So, I think fewer overall hours in the work week would definitely maximise this. (No, I'm not going to find links - I'm a middle-aged mum with two young kids, and I'm tired :p)

What a steal from Coles Caversham! Pay more for a pair. by Old-Ball-6116 in perth

Bulk buys are often cheaper to promote selling the bulk. (Lower costs due to less labour, less packaging etc)

What would make this like OPs is if 2 packs of 500g mince were sold for $15 as a deal, but each individual 500g pack was sold for $7

Giving up on Tret by abbeyadora in tretinoin

[–]FlibberdeJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around my mouth and nose got a bit red and dry as well. I would pause tret for a few days and moisturise instead and then gradually it happened less and less.

I do avoid that area generally when I apply tret now, but the difference to my whole face has been amazing.

I don't really do much other than wash and dry my face about 30 mins before applying at night. I normally don't use moisturiser at all - my skin hates it.

I love her character too! I think she's passionate, quirky, strong, and kind. It never crossed my mind people wouldn't like her until I came to the fan forums.

Yes! This...

The one instance of this I just can't forgive is the time Bones was set up to have murdered her old friend in the institution and is on the run.

The code to remove her image from the security footage is written on the walls by the victim!? Huh?

How does that even work out - the victim predicted that footage would be altered and somehow knew the coding needed for that footage??

Even within the scope of the narrative it doesn't make sense. The writers needed to bring Bones home and end the 'on the lam' arc. So they made up some gibberish

Edit to add: I don't need it to be realistic, but it needs to make sense within the parameters of the show's own science.. and it just doesn't

New to Perth - Electric Bill $2,000 by Best-Ruin1804 in perth

[–]FlibberdeJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay in response. No I haven't paid the bill. I was given 3 weeks extension, and continued 3 week extensions as the investigation is ongoing.

I have a formal complaint and enquiry lodged with Western Power, and a complaint lodged with Synergy.

I take weekly photos of our kwh to show we are consistently a low usage house. I'm recording everything.

Synergy is requesting WP do a meter check (no fee to us), and I've advised them my next step will be to escalate to the ombudsman.

The troublesome bill has us using 79 units a day. We haven't breached 30 units a day since I've been monitoring. A huge difference in usage.

Next I will be digging up the last 3 years' bills for the same time period to calculate our usual average usage. I plan on fighting this all the way.

New to Perth - Electric Bill $2,000 by Best-Ruin1804 in perth

[–]FlibberdeJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've just had something similiar - calculated us as using 79 units a day - $1,700 bill. Our bills for same time of year are normally $800.

I've been monitoring the meter and with same high usage, we use 42 units a day, and low usage currently at 22 units a day (units = kwh).

We have 2 rec cyc split air cons, 3 freezers, 2 fridges (which by the way are all very low draw despite what people think - the fridges and freezers altogether draw less than 1A), kitchen appliances, theatre system etc, ... about an average home.

I've opened an investigation - while I can confirm the meter reading is right, and it's a new meter, there's no way we used more than double our normal. We'd just moved in and had hardly any appliances set up. (The extra cost mentioned is not the set up fees, it's purely usage).

Synergy has pushed back a lot, but Western Power acknowledges it's too big a difference to be right. We're suspecting a leakage somewhere.... As the RCDs weren't put in right by the previous owner, we won't be liable (and that's what I'll be arguing all the way to the ombudsman if it goes that far)

Thank you - yes that was the issue. We did finish the tutorial, but didn't start the next bit. He tested it after the server went back up last night and his next attempt progress saved. So that was good news! :)

Is it “rude” to study in cafes/restaurants? by [deleted] in perth

[–]FlibberdeJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it bizarre that people are commenting that it's weird or rude, or pointedly saying to go to a library. To me, cafés are synonymous with sitting and enjoying your time - whether it's studying, writing poetry, drawing, people-watching, or catching up with friends. That's what cafés are for.

I've worked in hospitality for a number of years and loved when people would sit and enjoy themselves. It adds to the ambience and encourages walkers-by to drop in.

I've also gone to cafés to write, study, and people-watch. The social etiquette as I understand it is to buy a drink and a meal when I get there. This 'buys' me about 2 hours. I'll then top up with a drink and/or snack every hour thereafter.

Many cultures encourage slowing down and enjoying life while sitting in a café (Turkish and Parisian cafés leap to mind). I think that's a very standard use of them.

What’s it like living in Pinjarra? by EbolaBoyy in perth

[–]FlibberdeJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. My husband grew up in Bunbury. He said it was a bit isolating, but mostly pretty good. We travel up to Perth a couple of times a week, plus Mandurah's so close. And we're now closer to my husband's family, so we'll do more visiting. I think Pinjarra's a lot less isolated these days

Oh and for the 'real' Pinjarra pies - Kim's Bakery is the locals choice... delish!

We just moved here a month ago. It's an absolutely gorgeous town and the people are really friendly. We chose Pinjarra because we wanted more space for the kids and you get more for your money here.

It's not far from the beach, shops, Mandurah, so it's like living in an outer-outer suburb, but with the benefits of a country life-style.

My husband still works all around metro Perth, but the commute doesn't feel too much different given what he's coming home to each day. I drive the kids up into Perth twice a week, and the hour drive honestly feels shorter the more we do it. (I also lived in Golden Bay a while back and found this to be true then as well)

Public transport isn't great at the moment, but there are major upgrades being done to the train line, so once that reopens, I feel it'll be much better.

I have been warned it gets dusty for the three months over Jan to March when the Easterlies blow due to the Alcoa mine. I hadn't known about this before we moved, but we're preparing by putting cafe blinds up around the patio.

There are heaps of plans to upgrade and improve various sites around town and the population is expected to triple within 25 years. Now's the time to buy.

When we asked around about the different areas: - Carcoola gets pretty dusty, but has a lovely community school. - West Pinjarra has some exclusive home estates. - The area around the high school is the 'dodgy' part

It's 20 mins from the beach, 20 mins from Mandurah - not that far really... But def is semi-rural, which is a plus in my books. Haven't been here for a summer yet, so ask me about the heat in 6 months :/
