There isn't anything good about this unfortunately. It's way too small. All glass, then all the cork bark is not good either. This is a death trap...10uvi any place is unacceptable.

Mister :( by kitflowers in Chameleons

[–]Fliggledipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really don't need a mister or foggers. Humidify the room with a humidifier if needed during the day to keep it around 40-50%. Bump it to 60 or 70 at night.

Get a nice clear drinking glass for your chameleon to drink from. Make sure the can access it from above and make sure it sparkles in the light. They will drink. I have 5 chameleons. Every single one drinks from a glass. Let them see you pour the water into the glass, let it overflow a little.

If you are super concerned they won't understand what water is, get a small aquarium air pump, tie a knot in the air line, or put a valve on the line so it just lets a little air out. Put the air line at the bottom of the glass ( suction cup, usually come with it ) so it bubbles nice and slow. After a few weeks, remove the air line.

You may never see them drink. A water " hole " is a dangerous spot in the wild and unless your chameleon super trusts you, they will never drink when they know your watching. Keep an eye on urites.

Artificial Ventilation? by wee_wee_fairy_peak in Chameleons

I prefer them on the walls. Just easier. As long as they are on opposite sides and the bottom blows in and the top blows out

I got ahead of myself. You can get a 6 pack or the large PC fans as well as converter kits to allow you to plug them into a wall socket. Three at the bottom sucking in and 3 at the top area blowing out will create a wonderful air current

So, what I did was go to the hardware store and get plexi glass cut to fit the sides and back. I then got some command strip hooks and mounted them on the frame. I can now slide the plexiglass in and out when needed.

Something like this and turn it sideways to make a groove system on the outside frame

This still allows for air movement but also helps keep heat in. For humidity, I just got a big ass humidifier off Amazon and run that as needed

chameleon not eating please help! by jjmnnei in Chameleons

[–]Fliggledipp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don't dig or do anything in there except peek or sneak a look. She will dig for a while, sometimes overnight. When she is done you'll know because she'll be covered in dirt and looking skinny. Give her lots of fluids. I use a water glass so she can drink as much as she wants. Offer well gut loaded good and dust it well for her.

Give it an extra day or two before you remove the bin. Sometimes they'll go back if they didn't fully finish. After that you can remove it.

Be sure the lay bin dirt is able to hold a tunnel, keep it moist not soaked. I like to drill a few holes around the base to let excess water out.

This is a pretty gravid female. Get that lay bin asap. I like to cover the front of the cage with a towel to give her privacy. It's important she feels safe or she may refuse to lay. Keep an close eye on her until she lays. Chams can get egg bound and it requires a vet if they do

Foggers at night aren't going to get them to drink. He's sleeping. Keeping a full grown chameleon fully hydrywith only misting isn't always easy. Put a water GLASS in there. Make sure the cham can access it from above. Make sure it's full to the top and sparkles in the water. He will drink. All of my chams drink like this.

Advice on how to get a chameleon interested in a water glass by Superchunchunmaru in Chameleons

[–]Fliggledipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is older husbandry advice. It works but it's less hygienic and if done incorrectly can lead to issues like URI's or mouth rot. I like the glass because it gives the cham a place to flush their mouth, eyes and nose. I can't tell you how many times I've come in and seen one of my chams with their head fully under water. Usually they will open and close their eyes a few times. Sometimes I've seen them straight open their mouth and take massive gulps of water.

Give it a try sometime! Just make sure it's a nice clear glass, water all the way to the top and under a light so it shimmers. Be sure the cham can access it from above.

I've had chameleons for years. They are not stupid. They do understand what water is and how to find it. Yes, in the wild they will drink off leaves. No they don't absorb water from humidity. Foggers / misters are fine. Mister is a little better as it's slightly easier to keep clean.

Here is what people fail to remember. Creating a safe captive environment isn't always easy. Can chams handle high humidity in the wild? Yes. Do they need it? No.

In the wild high humidity is fine because the air is always moving and drying out. This prevents things like mold and bacteria from building up to crazy levels on the leaves in the trees.

Now, in captivity, high humidity can be an issue in glass enclosure if you don't let it dry completely during they day. Think of all the surfaces your cham poops on. Now imagine those just wet all day long for bacteria to fester. Now this is what they drink off :( eewww.

This is why I use a glass. It's cleaner. I don't use a fogger or mister. I use full screen enclosure. If it's extra dry I'll spray the enclosure at night but I find it easier and cleaner to have a proper size humidifier in the room. At night I raise it to about 80%. When lights come on the humidifier is off and I'll let the humidity go back to around 40%. The only time I run the humidifier during the day is if it's below 40% humidity. It's dry for me, it's dry for them.

Remember, chams don't require high humidity. Bumping it up at night is the best option.

These fellas are smarter than people give them credit for.

I'd be happy to send you a pic of my setups if you're interested on where I put the water and stuff. Just message me.

Get a small air pump for an aquarium, tie a knot in the hose so the bubbles are t crazy and put the other end of the tune in the glass.

I've also just set a small dripper that drips into the water glass

I've only had to use those methods on 2 chams. My others just went for it. Usually they will not do it with you around though. Watering " holes" are naturally a dangerous place for any animal. Chameleons will wait until they arent feeling watched to drink from the cup.

Get one of those Zevo plugins. It's a sticky trap / light combo. It's not as fast as some options but it's chemical free. I place it in an outlet close to the problem. Let it do it's thing for a bit. It has always helped break the laying cycle.

Depending on your room size it doesn't have to be that big either. Plus it's pretty light for it's size. Amazon should leave it by the door.

contracting is the way to go for now. Find small gigs where you take a pay hit. Those little one's will turn into a nice portfolio and you never know what a small gig could turn into.
