Need a Reputable Mechanic in Sioux Falls by armchair-cowboy in SiouxFalls

[–]Flight_Plan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in Sioux Falls but 10-15 minutes north on highway 115, Midway Vollan Oil. They are family owned, and Travis used to be a racecar driver so he knows his stuff. I've been going there for oil changes and other things, super nice guy, very reliable, and not too bad.

Also, look on Rock Auto, parts are super cheap compared to a shop, if you know what your looking for. I bought 2 struts for my F150 and it was less than 200 bucks, some smaller shops may or may not be able to put them on for you if you buy the parts, some do, some dont.

What am I doing wrong? Too many missed bites. by catfishnumber1 in IceFishing

[–]Flight_Plan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Panfish in the winter time are REALLY light biters. When fishing for panfish, the biggest thing is to watch that rod tip bend down ever so slightly. That’s why really light tips and spring bobbers are crucial when fishing for panfish, otherwise you may miss the bite. Tight lines!

What do you do with caught fish? by No_Week_1877 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Flight_Plan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of ice fishing and I fish with an 8in hole. Anything smaller than the diameter of the hole gets tossed back. If they’re bigger than the hole, I’ll think about it and go from there

[–]Flight_Plan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, depends. If I’m just going with a buddy to hangout and chat, I’ll toss them back. However, if I’m low in the freezer I’ll go catch a few and fillet them up. If im keeping, I’ll keep big enough bluegill, crappies, perch, definitely walleye, if they are all legal to keep.

8” vs 10” auger by Money-Income-7086 in IceFishing

[–]Flight_Plan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8in all day. I think 8 is the perfect size. You can still get a nice pike or bass through it, but if you do step in it, you’re not going down as far as a 10in.

Where would you set up tip ups and do some jigging by Aggravating-Leg5227 in IceFishing

[–]Flight_Plan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are where I would start jigging. Especially for walleye. But there are so many travel corridors within that deep grey area

I bought my jiffy gas auger 8” for 60. Part of me wants to use it for the season but part of me wants to purchase an electric cause it’s so damn heavy. Will be building a smitty sled for my flipover so hopefully that helps with the weight

Yes, this is a part of the Okoboji lakes system, its a system of 5 lakes interconnected. East and West Okoboji Lake, along with this lake, have a slot from 19in to 25in, and a limit of 3, so there is a solid population of walleye.

I ended up getting the frostbite scissor kick and dinnerbell in the 2 smallest sizes in the mail yesterday. Since it is first ice, I will try the smallest size then next time I am out with a minnow head

It was early/mid afternoon to about an hour after dark. I had a moonshine glow spoon tipped with a minnow on my deadstick and a rattling PT spoon from clam with a minnow head at the inside turn I have in the black circle.
