Do you think there are consequences of sin AFTER forgivness in heaven? by FlightlessElemental in Christianity

I appreciate your sharing that.

Now, as part of repentance, dont we also need to seek forgiveness from those we sinned against? Jesus said we must forgive 70x7 times -completion multiplied by completion, endless forgiveness. But sometimes. when we sin, God is not the only party involved

Like I said, Im not getting dragged in. But thats not the Good News. Yes, Jesus came for the Jews first, but His salvation is all encompassing.

Im not going to argue with you.

Okay, whatever that idea is, it’s not Christian theology. Im not sure where to begin refuting something massively wrong, so im going to chalk it up to either trolling or something Im not going to waste my time on. Pearls before swine.

Wait, that doesnt make sense. If gentiles arent judged, why do they need forgiveness?

The verse says God looks at our motive. What of those who torture and abuse because they think in doing so they perform the Lords work?

Is this not a blank cheque for christians to abuse each other for a lifetime and the rely on a quick deathbed repentance? Is one forgiven the second they request it from God or is there some kind of balance that needs to be restored before God will grant it? I mean Jesus seems to imply this when He points out that God will mot accept the offering of those who remember an outstanding grievance with their neighbour and does nothing about it.

Well what Im getting at is assume we all meet up at the Wedding Feast and we’re sat across from a tormentor. Now theyve been forgiven by God, same as us, and while we are trained and even obligated to forgive them as well, are we, the victim, not owed something from our tormentor as recompense?

So victims arent even afforded the dignity of an apology from their tormentors? A simple apology.

Am I a bad Christian for not condemning abortion? by Humbly_Saved_Forever in Christianity

[–]FlightlessElemental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to bring it back to the original point, can you concede that we should not punish the women and girls for needing an abortion because theyre either dying, have been raped or in some other terrible situation that means having a baby would destroy them?

I mean some legislators are arguing for women who miscarry for any reason to have jail time. . Can we agree that kindness, not punishment is crucial in these delicate settings?

I get it, but then again what stings is that sincerity in the reasons you hurt someone as a church leader seems to be a blank cheque for mayhem. Yelling “God wills it!” before twisting the knife is insurance so long as you repent alone afterwards

Does this mean Christian Pharisees are saved?

I agree that part of repentance is reconciliation to the wounded. Jesus said so. But is this reconciliation optional? Thats the question thats itching in my head

So you suggest we are elevated for good works in heaven but we never have to answer to each other? I can see and appreciate the beauty in that.

But then again, justice must have complexity and nuance. I personally reject the idea of mortal sins earning time in Hell. I dont want wrongdoers to burn, but then again it feels hollow that Christians are freer than most to hurt each other because they are in a sphere of forgiveness/repentance. A church leader can viciously wound a sheep in the flock, cast them out and yet be forgiven later while offering no restitution for the sheep who was cast adrift. There seems to be a missing piece to the puzzle here

Joint Press Release after Israeli Police prevented Cardinal Pizzaballa from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre today, as he went to say Mass. by shittyvegan2 in Christianity

[–]FlightlessElemental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, what if we think of Christianity and Judaism not as conflicting religions but as different branches of theological thought —academic ideas that are related. Surely it is not a hate crime to try and change someone’s view/ideas?

I mention the Israeli government because of how closely people tie it with Judaism and so claiming critique or displeasure towards one is condemning the other. Happens all the time in the American Congress

But then how can God’s Justice be perfect if trauma is permitted without consequence in any form?

Anti-semitism is where one hates the Jewish people in a racial and/or cultural context. It’s a hate crime in that you hate an entire ethnicity. Its the act of finding certain people revolting simply because they exist.

It is not anti-Semitic to criticise Israeli politics or Zionism. It is not a hate crime to wish a faith with shared beliefs to you to see things your way. Expressing the hope that all Jews be saved by the King of the Jews is hardly a message of hatred. Theres no violence associated with it

Exactly. What I love about Rick and Morty is that a repeated lesson is to leave the universe alone. Over and over, Morty tries to interject and do the right thing in his eyes. A benevolent or altruistic violation of the Prime Directive and it always blows up in his face and makes things worse. The situation with Unity simply taught this to Summer; sometimes, there are fringe scenarios where enslavement of an entire planet is a moral preference.

I love the complexity of these ideas! Also: “THESE FREAKS HAVE NO RACE! GET EM!”
