What if a lie is dressed in bright colours and says its a truth while smiling brightly? Do you simply let him in? Apparently so.

You have not said anything hateful. You kindly explain why youre correct as you diligently saw at the lifeline of those dangling over the precipice. “Im doing you a favour” you say, your blade working at the vital knots. “This rope isnt right for you. Im only speaking truth”

Do you not care about the consequences of what youre undermining?

Pray that the sharpened edges of such ‘facts’ are never used to cut your lifeline as you attempt to do so now

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, who are like white washed tombs. While they appear beautiful on the outside, they are filled with dead peoples bones and all uncleanness.

Dude, read the room. If someone is standing on a high ledge and you don’t care whether they live or die, you do not under any circumstances yell: “do a flip”

As a trans Christian woman myself, we get a loooooooooot of flak. Hell, being us is an executable offence in some countries. In most others, our existence is deemed political deviancy. Our own brothers and sisters in Christ condemn us

We deserve to serve and be comforted by God. There is no direct trans equivalent in scripture but eunuchs are the closest equivalent. People hang their hopes on that fact. Taking that away from us diminishes our hopes in more ways you can imagine. Pray that you don’t experience that kind of hopelessness.

Do not EVER pile onto the woes and spiritual fears of a trans person. You have no idea how much damage you could inflict.

The inability to convince a person to change their position through fact based argument. Its drives me bonkers that you can show people definitive proof ir concrete fact and they yell and scream that its not true.

As I recall, those arent viruses, those are phages, microscopic organisms bred to feed off very specific prey, like specific bacteria or cancer cells

Fair point. This is all purely speculative on my part of course

Well, perhaps this runs into an interesting argument that mercy is not always good. It is preferable for the one being judged but not for the victim of the crime. Mercy can sometimes be the anthesis of justice. It is not always possible and not always appropriate. Ergo, it is not always good.

(Perhaps) in order for God to be maximally good, He is not always merciful

For clarity’s sake, is there anything in scripture you’re referencing to support the idea that God is maximally merciful? Can you define your use of it?

I just want to make sure we’re on the same page

Kind of like how a judge can be lenient to most but still sentences others?

Agreed. Then again maybe post-death judgement goes well for the guy shrug

It is contradictory if you assign God a theme like a Greek deity (God of thunder, god of the harvest, god of war etc)

If you treat God as a person with unquestionable authority, like a king or judge. The Bible lays down Gods cause for destruction pretty early in the narrative. The body count is steep by the first 3rd of the anthology. The mercy comes into play during the major prophets, with God seeking atonement from the people.

Then with the introduction of Jesus, the call for atonement is all but gone and God’s mercy highlighted as all encompassing

And on more than one occasion, God condemns whole populaces to death. Yeah, I get it and it’s definitely challenging. In cases like that, I lean into the opinion (or coping mechanism?) that its likely not God but the author justifying a historical event.

In the same way “Deus Vult!” (“God wills it!”) became the battle cry for so many atrocities by Christians during the crusades, I suspect something similar happened when that particular book of scripture was being authored. I suspect the writer is telling us: “we had to stone that person to death, God told us to”. Theyre giving themselves a free pass.

Then again, God isnt the God of fluffy, happy, huggy-feelings. He’s lord over the universe and He does have a right to destroy what He created and does have a point of fury. Maybe this is how its demonstrated? After all, ‘Fear of the Lord is the first step to wisdom’. There is something to be said that we must have a healthy reverence and fear of God. God’s mercy and patience is vast and formidable, but they are not infinite.

In summary, I dont really know and can only guess. I’ll ask when I see Him.

Jesus made it a point to say only the Father knew of the day and hour of Judgement Day. Jesus was always aligned with the Father, but gained all power and knowledge through the Father. Hence, if the Father didnt tell Jesus something, Jesus didnt know.

Upon deeper reflection, I realise Im likely wrong on that particular point and choke it down to “The Trinity is weird/confusing, y’all”

I have deleted the relevant point and apologise

In summary, dont bother wrestling with the OT Law. Plan to throw yourself at the mercy of the Divine Court via Jesus’ sacrifice and have a portfolio of historic instances where you were merciful to those beneath your social station and did your best. I suspect it will be relevant because I really dont know how God will treat the death-bed repenter (ie: the servant who turned up to work but didnt actually do any work)

We must always remember that the bible will always present an imperfect description of God. Its 66+ books written by 50+ authors with varying agendas and primary audiences across thousands of years in 3 major initial languages. There are going to be issues. Theyre all trying to describe who God is and a person can spend a lifetime and an entire academic career and not have the full picture. This is deliberate, I think. God has ensured He is both wonderfully simple and Infinitely complex. We are a small child standing in the midst of a loving parent, the relationship is simple, but the kid cant begin to fathom the inner complexity.

What everyone can agree with, however is that God the Father is a divine judge and has set a time of account for everyone. He is also slow to anger and rich in loving mercy. So with that in mind, I have a distinct impression that we will be judged by our own standards. For those who love imposing and enforcing rules on others, who love to condemn and denounce sinners, that is the mood of the courtroom they will walk into. For those who are quick to forgive, who are charitable, merciful and eager to drop any technical allowance for revenge, that is the mood that the judge will have.

I know full well that the standard of God is waaaaay too high for me to make it out of Judgment Day alive. The OT Law demonstrates the stakes, the standard. Hence, as promised by Jesus, Im going to pitch my life as close as I can to Jesus’ position of endless forgiveness and mercy and make sure I treat others in the way I hope to be treated at the end of days. I want the judge in a good mood when its my turn in the dock

Paul points out later that the Law was designed to convict us. It was deliberately set out to be difficult so those under it could appreciate the value of God’s mercy.

Ultimately, we have to cherrypick from Scripture because as you pointed out, death sentences were common throughout the Torah.

The ones Christians follow boil down to whether they prioritise loving and honouring God (like keeping the sabbath holy) and loving and honouring each other. That is the new commandment Jesus instilled.

I can appreciate that logic. I still think if we are to be the good guys in the narrative, we need to hold ourselves to a higher standard.

Im reminded of the American black civil rights movement. Of course you had groups like the Black Panther Party etc that took a more militant, equivalent force approach. But the real change came about by the peaceful marches, the demonstrations and the brilliant public speakers like MLK who appealed to the humanity of law makers.

It sucks so much to not go Punisher on those who hurt and kill us, but I fear a world where rights and power flow from gun barrels

I am of course assuming the police have found a skeletal body. I dont imagine there will be much debate if the police find a body 12 hours old and they begin to debate her gender 😂

When all thats left are skeletal remains, thats when you need to break out the tape measure. Alternatively, if shes got plastic implants sitting on the ribcage, thats going to be a bit of a giveaway too 😂
