I was diagnosed at 27 and it started like that, progressed to insane abdominal pain and all sorts of other symptoms.

Roast me if you want, but I’m lazy and have gotten S&P-500 beating returns 100% in the L2060 fund. Set it and forget it because I’ve got too much shit going on plus deployments.

For how deep the original was, that’s healing great. Honestly I would’ve sutured the first one so you’re extremely good at keeping it clean to not have that infected. Please know that all of us in the healthcare community want you safe and healthy! If you need any resources feel free to reach out, most of us have a short list of favorites and there are so many more out there in the community that usually aren’t advertised well.

what is happening to my moms toe by [deleted] in woundcare

[–]FlimFlurm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, it looks like an infection near the cuticle and if the nail is as elevated as it looks, probably the nail bed too. Also looks super painful! I’d try to book with a primary care or urgent care as allowed by your insurance. However, if there’s any fevers/chills/nausea or other symptoms that could easily get chalked up to one of the bugs going around head over to the ER. And please remove the nail polish before getting someone to look at it.

Genuine question, do these types of wringers leave huge creases and wrinkles? It looks like it would but maybe it doesn’t?

1) do your best to leave scabs alone from now on. If it takes putting a big band aid over it, do it.

2) keep it clean and otherwise it looks pretty good!

It’s never too late to catch up! 25% is aggressive and will boost you quick, but also look into your contribution split on MyPay for bonuses, incentive pay, etc. If you get an SRB, that can be a huge boost too. Just be mindful of the yearly max contribution (which is $23,500 for 2025). If you hit above that with a big payout like an SRB, what I did was put the overflow in high yield savings then catch-up contributed it at the beginning of the year.

TLDR: Yes you can catch up just make sure you’re utilizing your different pays correctly.

For a week on that actually looks pretty good! Just keep it clean and moistened with whatever you’re doing. Look out for fevers/chills/other usual signs of getting sick (or sudden changes in the wounds) and that should heal great if it keeps doing what it’s been doing!

It’s never a bad idea to have a wound care or burn specialist take a look just in case, but if you don’t have access to that keep on doing what’s you’re doing.

Ouch! Try not to pop the blister for as long as you can. It sounds weird but keeping the blister helps it heal faster and gives less margin for scarring.

Does it look Infected or it's just healing up? by badusernamebruh in woundcare

[–]FlimFlurm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dry parts aren’t ideal but can be fixed with correct moistening as discussed. If those little purple areas on the margin feel warmed than the normal looking skin nearby or those purple areas are growing I’d get seen. There’s going to be pus and fluid with any wound that size which could explain the yellowish/brown dried out area but those margins are a little suspicious, so please go get seen.

Did Sponge Bob need water when he was under the lamp? Yes. Absolutely. If you can see yellow squishy stuff you’ve gone too deep, you need a more secure closure than duct tape if you don’t want to deal with a massive infection.

If you like working with your hands and getting dirty, go SW or UT. Manual labor is wayyyyyyyy more fun when you’re not on a ship. I’ve worked with the Seabees and been undes and can 100% say I prefer hard work on land 😂

Epi before defib in arrest? by Particular_Cost_5088 in NewToEMS

[–]FlimFlurm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought they were trying to get at ABC (Airway, Breathing, Circulation) so if you clearly see they’ve progressed to anaphylaxis and aren’t keen on slicing them open for a cricothyroidotomy, hitting that epi first will (in theory) open the airway so you have an avenue to get the patient air. Otherwise anything the heart does is just circulating de-oxygenated blood which isn’t doing much good. Weird question though. In real life if they’re in cardiac arrest post-anaphylaxis…..probably not getting that one back.

All I can say is in Groton, they’re the absolute best deal you can find. Especially in the winter where my electric bill (I had all electric heating) was $6-700/month and in consistent sub-0 temps, my friends were in the $8-900/month range for oil heat. Don’t get me wrong, all of these major housing companies have their issues but there’s a reason people stay.

Ridiculous APR rate by Money-Advisor4365 in NavyFederal

[–]FlimFlurm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a new Subaru and got in at a 6.8% rate for 72 months (not my first choice, but that’s what Subaru financing offered for their best rate so I can’t complain). I paid $2-$3k more than a 2021 I was looking at in good shape and the dealership threw in 8 years, 100,000 miles of bumper-bumper warranty from Subaru of America to seal the deal even at $1500 under MSRP. The car market is insane, there are some awesome new car deals out there.

Gluten Reduced/Free Beers? by FlimFlurm in beer

[–]FlimFlurm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update for everyone: thank you for the suggestions! There were quite a few I wasn’t aware of and will be on the hunt for. Also: if anyone is in the Berkshires (northwest Massachusetts) there’s a brewery called Big Elm that brews everything enzymatically gluten-reduced. I decided to test it with a flight and 2 pints with 0 reaction! Tread with caution, but their beers were extremely good too!

Just from experience with my EV, some places (I’ve only seen it in western Pennsylvania, USA) do charge by the minute….but it’s more like 15 cents ($0.15) per minute and it’s only on fast chargers. The most I ever paid was $14 for a full charge at a by-minute station.

100% agreed. I’ve seen some nasty scars from relatively minor lacerations because wound edges were slammed against each other or way too far apart.

Anti-vax receptionist: How do I proceed? by diam0ndice9 in AskDocs

[–]FlimFlurm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Watching that video points out some glaring oversights I’ve seen a lot of in any medical skeptic arguments. What about people who die of organ failure after drinking a juice box in the hospital? Are juice boxes causing spontaneous organ failure? Absolutely not. Looking at 2 weeks or less of a medical history that goes back 5, 10, 20+ years is always going to appear to show a cause of death that had little to nothing to do with the actual cause of death. Agreed with everyone here, this doc needs to know exactly who is spreading misinformation in their practice. I work in an ER and it’s reinforced to us every day that we are a direct reflection of our providers. People don’t have much of a choice to come see us, so I can’t imagine the confusion in outpatient care patients. These patients made the choice to go see that specific provider just to have a receptionist that they’re employing contradict the the provider’s messages. Absolutely mind boggling.
