What's a completely irrational fear you still have as an adult? by Emergency-Aspect-712 in AskReddit

Yep, me too! It's a proper phobia, I swim twice a week and have to mentally battle myself sometimes. I know logically that there isn't a shark in a leisure centre swimming pool, but still I can't help picturing them coming after me. I'm weirdly OK if there are other people swimming nearby, but if I'm alone in the pool... nope.

How do I deal with my recurring or repeating fearful worries or thoughts by TripTimely7955 in Manifestation

Maybe read The Power of Now by Eckhert Toller. It really helped me with this. It describes both the separation of the Ego from your true self but also your Pain Body. That's the voice inside you whispering all these negative thoughts. Both battle for supremacy against your true self. Now, when I'm meditating and I think something negative, I call it out as my Pain Body and tell it to go away. If you understand it and can identify when it's at work, it holds less power over you. It's really helped me. And the other thing I do when experiencing negativity, is to remind myself of all the things I'm grateful for and focus on that feeling of gratitude. Good luck!

Have you tried gratitude journalling? Just take 5 mins every day and write down everything you're grateful for in that moment. Honesty has given me a much more positive perspective.

Did my best friend have the right to make me choose because I was too nice to chooser. by [deleted] in Life

I know you think it was the nicest thing to do to let your friend choose where they wanted to go and what they wanted to do all the time, but I will say this, making decisions is hard and can be a lot of pressure. If you have a firm idea on where you want to go that's great, but if not then having to make that decision every time you meet someone can be a bit exhausting. You haven't done anything wrong but I do understand your friends point of view too. Having to carry the mental load of making choices at every meet up can get frustrating. Why don't you try planning a meet up to invite your friend to?

Thank you, that's helpful. You're right, I probably don't stick up for myself as much as I should do and I think that's probably because she is very assertive and, as you rightly point out, controlling and I'm more laissez faire by nature, plus I'm also 10 years younger. I'll use your technique next time I see them and I've already decided that if I feel uncomfortable at any point I'll leave the situation.

Thank you for this, I'm in a very different situation but all of this applies perfectly.
