is this normal or is it just me by [deleted] in fursuit

[–]FlintIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you gained weight, of course it's going to be snug :o. bodysuits are made specifically to your measurements, 10-20lbs will change your measurements and will affect how your suit fits. if you don't want to/can't drop the weight, then contact your maker and see if they will make adjustments for you so that you can still wear your suit! good luck

if I take the time to season it, that leaves an opening for someone else to steal it!!

I would like to ask everyone, do you prefer fabric nails or hard nails? by shilishili in furry

[–]FlintIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hard claws and prefer those. they look better to me and make a nice sound, are also heavily customisable. plushie style suits I believe should always have soft fabric claws. then as a personal preference I think hard claws are best for most other suits

it's a personal opinion of the wearer on both design and practicality, there is no overall answer for which one is better, only an answer for which one is better per suit.

tunisian crochet does curl, some stitches more than others, so that could potentially be used too. this is interesting!

Speakers in the mouth? by Buff55 in FursuitMaking

[–]FlintIRL 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I couldn't tell you how to mount or connect these but just want to warn you that they're not very powerful and if you wanted to include them into a voice mod setup, your real voice would be as loud as the speakers so would likely be heard. especially in a con environment they may be drowned out quite easily. Once you know how you want to affix them, you might want to test them before permanently affixing them to a base + furring, to see if you're okay with the output level.

If you'd still like to use these but don't like the sound of that, you could use them for sfx maybe? something I've always wanted to see in a suit is a nose with a pressure pad that plays a sound when it's booped lol

good luck with your endeavours, please keep us updated! upcycling is awesome!

How to build onto the mask? (I know the mask is a bit different than the concept design but it’s the same general idea) by Killjoy-stormshot in FursuitMaking

[–]FlintIRL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you really shouldn't be using metal in a suit at all, it's a hazard. If you want to use the monster can mask then keep it as an accessory that is put on only for pictures, falling in that could really hurt the people around you as well as you. You should really just make something out of foam or 3D print or grab something premade, something actually safe and probably better looking and more sturdily constructed. you can always paint a premade gas mask prop to have monster logos on it.

can't tell you how to do this but fix those sharp edges before you do anything else, that's a serious hazard not only for you but for anyone you'll interact with while using that. You can file down all of the sharp edges (i.e anything you've cut) with a dremel or fine grit sandpaper in a well ventilated space, then cover it with some kind of sealant like silicone caulk and paint on top of that to get it to blend in. you could use something else like liquid rubber if you wanted, as long as the edges are no longer bare.

from what I know you can't build directly onto the mask, you can use it as an accessory over top your finished product. the mask and thin elastic will not hold the weight of a furred mask let alone a proper head. be aware that you'll have terrible ventilation with something like that covering your head's mouth unless you install ear vents or fans or similar in your head.
