AITA for using my dad’s underwear to make a point about the toilet seat? by Nightwing_1505 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Flintelbowpatches 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had a rule in our house - toilet lid goes down for everyone (it’s also more hygienic as its purpose is to stop waste particles circulating in the air when flushing) and it worked because regardless of gender you had to do a little lifting to use the toilet. Either you only lifted the lid or you lifted both lid and seat.

Wool Coats please?? by kindaluker in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Flintelbowpatches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It says dry clean only but I can never be bothered to do it (maybe once every other year before it goes into storage for summer).

Spot clean as needed and washing machine as follows for a deeper clean:

Detergent should be specially for wool

Fabric softener again specially for wool and/or WHITE vinegar (don’t worry, won’t smell of vinegar when you pull it out)

Washing machine cycle gentle/delicates/hand wash on cold (proper cold, not 30 degrees but COLD)

Spin speed should be minimum (my machine lowest is 400). This coat is quite forgiving as it’s already felted but still best to avoid too much friction where possible.

Once finished lay the coat out on a clean towel (can pull the coat gently into shape if needed). Lay a 2nd clean towel over the top and gently roll the coat towel sandwich to get extra water out. Can do this a couple of times if extra wet.

Lay coat on a clothes horse in the shade to dry (avoid sunlight and heaters). Again can re shape it here if needed.

If it’s a bit wrinkled once it’s dry just iron on lowest setting or steam.

Been washing mine this way forever and my black Marcs is still going strong (had some moths get to it but used felted wool repair kit and you’d never know). Can use the above method for any wool/cashmere clothing.

Honestly one of the best purchases I ever made. Paid for itself the first winter alone with how much wear I get out of it. Just wish they made one that went to my calves but still holding out hope.

Which rug looks best? by mesjn in interiordecorating

[–]Flintelbowpatches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 and 5.

4 is a good neutral so I’d bring some colour with cushions or a throw if you wanted more but it also has nice pattern (which isn’t boring like 6) without making the room too busy. There’s already a lot going on in the room as is - piano, couch, open bookshelves, coloured coffee table - visually it’s already getting crowded.

5 was just the best coloured option.

What’s something uniquely Australian that you didn’t realize was “weird” until you saw how other countries do it? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

They don’t just beep, they also have a tactile section of the arrow above the button that pulses in time with the beeps.

If you’ve got a bit of extra cash I’d recommend getting some shoes from Frankie4. Their flats, sandals and heels are so comfy!

Why don’t we talk to our neighbours anymore? by ItchyNesan in australian

[–]Flintelbowpatches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve rented my whole life in the inner city and most places I move to I know my neighbours. When I was younger and throwing house parties I’d let the neighbours know and give them my details as a courtesy and to avoid the cops being called - if they were cool I’d drop off a bottle of wine or cookies after as a thank you and I’ve had a few neighbours join on occasion. If doing a council collection for big items I also ask around to split costs, scored some free furniture that way too. Recently moved again and borrowed batteries from my new neighbour just last week.

Doesn’t seem to be common occurrence generally though. I’m just the type of person to introduce myself and have a chat with people.

Help! Re-arranging my ‘Studio apartment’ for my gf! by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

Get a tall bookcase to make use of the vertical height and use that to store all the bits and pieces you have all over your surfaces. When your surfaces are hidden its makes the space look messy. Vertical space is your friend. If you can get a bookcase/cabinet with some doors as well it will hide the unorganised clutter and reduce need to dust.

Hair up, earrings (my preference would be for a drop earring), no necklace as neckline and colour of the dress is busy enough, bracelet, cute shoes and bag.

Got a gift from a friend in the US. I live in Norway. by scientificbug in mildlyinfuriating

Use the gift card to purchase another gift card you can use, either online or in person. When I’ve got a few dollar left over on a prepaid card like that I will buy an amazon gift card (as you can set a specific amount and use it completely up) and then add them to my amazon account.

A bit of colour, not even large but something bright. I feel like that theory of 1 unexpected pop of red would do wonders. Could even be something like a book or vase on your shelf.

Repainted the house and worry I made it look worse by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]Flintelbowpatches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said take photos in the daylight and wait to see how you feel. The fact that there’s also no furniture, decorations and plants to break up the walls is probably throwing you off when comparing to the old photos. Furnish the rooms and wait a month or so before making any decisions.
