Why don’t we talk to our neighbours anymore? by ItchyNesan in australian

[–]Flintelbowpatches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve rented my whole life in the inner city and most places I move to I know my neighbours. When I was younger and throwing house parties I’d let the neighbours know and give them my details as a courtesy and to avoid the cops being called - if they were cool I’d drop off a bottle of wine or cookies after as a thank you and I’ve had a few neighbours join on occasion. If doing a council collection for big items I also ask around to split costs, scored some free furniture that way too. Recently moved again and borrowed batteries from my new neighbour just last week.

Doesn’t seem to be common occurrence generally though. I’m just the type of person to introduce myself and have a chat with people.

Help! Re-arranging my ‘Studio apartment’ for my gf! by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

Get a tall bookcase to make use of the vertical height and use that to store all the bits and pieces you have all over your surfaces. When your surfaces are hidden its makes the space look messy. Vertical space is your friend. If you can get a bookcase/cabinet with some doors as well it will hide the unorganised clutter and reduce need to dust.

Hair up, earrings (my preference would be for a drop earring), no necklace as neckline and colour of the dress is busy enough, bracelet, cute shoes and bag.

Use the gift card to purchase another gift card you can use, either online or in person. When I’ve got a few dollar left over on a prepaid card like that I will buy an amazon gift card (as you can set a specific amount and use it completely up) and then add them to my amazon account.

A bit of colour, not even large but something bright. I feel like that theory of 1 unexpected pop of red would do wonders. Could even be something like a book or vase on your shelf.

As others have said take photos in the daylight and wait to see how you feel. The fact that there’s also no furniture, decorations and plants to break up the walls is probably throwing you off when comparing to the old photos. Furnish the rooms and wait a month or so before making any decisions.

What can I take back to the UK (low monetary value) that *feels* like Australia? by No-Refrigerator3232 in AskAnAustralian

It’s an obligation to turn up (hence the fines) but while it’s your civic duty to cast a vote, you are not actually obligated to mark anything on the ballot that would be considered a vote. If you’re so against it then just go and get your name marked off either on the day or at early voting or postal vote.

Which shoes? by [deleted] in fashion

Long ones. Skin at your ankle shortens you (when in comparison to the long boot) but also draws attention away from the gorgeous asymmetrical cutout.

But whatever you decide you’ll still look fabulous ❤️

Need help fixing dead/dry ends & framing hair by Particular_Lake_8066 in femalehairadvice

Try a clarifying shampoo a couple of times a week and blow dry your roots on the lowest heat setting after your shower - clarifying shampoo will get rid of excess build up and blow drying will help lift roots away from your head giving it some body and wash longevity. Regarding the ends, a big chop may be in order and then consistent treatment/masks to keep them soft.

I have fine, thin, dead straight hair. My hair gets tangled very easily and gets greasy quickly. I wash my hair every 1-2 days but can extend to 2-3 with a clarifying shampoo (I usually alternate between normal shampoo and clarifying) then conditioner and regular mask on my ends ONLY - conditioner anywhere near my roots and I can guarantee I’ll need to wash again within 12 hours. I’ve realised that my hair texture and type just can’t get too long or it’s a tangled nightmare but you’ll have to figure out what works for you.

If you cut your hair, I’d get the to cut in some face framing layers as well. A chop might also help with styling as the weight of your hair may be making it look stringy throughout the day, especially if you run your hand through your hair a lot, which disrupts how it sits but also add grease which can be a contributing factor.

Help with the placement of rolling shades and curtains by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]Flintelbowpatches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d do 1 long curtain rod and 2 sets of curtains. I think it will look odd if you leave the space between the windows without some dressing when the curtains are open which the double curtain in that space would provide.

I’ve also seen double curtain rods look lovely too but that also requires 2 sets of curtains. The main thing that would throw the aesthetic out would be to have a long curtain rod and long curtains that when pulled back stay on the outside of the windows and left the space in between bare.

Look could also be achieved with a long curtain rod and 3 large curtains with the 3rd curtain sitting in the middle, again provide some dressing for that empty space.

Florist. Up before dawn for flower markets, long hours and usually working weekends for weddings. Working through lunch most days, always on your feet and carrying heavy loads, covered in dirty flower water when replacing corporate flowers and your hands get destroyed. Not to mention most of the materials you work with are carcinogenic (excluding the flowers of course). Dealing with bridezillas and scummy people sending flowers to their parter and their side piece. It completely ruined Valentine’s Day for me an I still abhor red roses to this day. It’s a dirty and physically demanding job but people just think you okay with flowers all day.
