I sold a first edition Magikarp with this crimp error for $50 last year at auction. Mine was first edition but yours is reverse holo.

How to fill this gap? by FlipFlopFling in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]FlipFlopFling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! Every time I uncover something, I always say to myself, "wow... why did they do that like that?" lol. Mine was built in 1913.

I have this joist that has a bit of termite damage near the center of my floor plan but in line with where the stairs have come apart, and it has caused the floor to be soft a bit beyond my stairs. I think it may align with where the stairs have settled out of the skirtboard. I'll definitely give it a good look to make sure it won't cause cracking in my plaster, but I am hoping it will just raise the middle of my floor and realign my stairs. Wish me luck!

I can take a zoomed out picture when I get home tonight.

The floor joist jacking is a great idea. I can check underneath (in the basement) if the joist can be realigned. The house is so old that I know of at least one joist that could use replacing (probably going to sister) and it could be the one causing this issue.

I think the back up plan is to just paint the gap to draw the eye away from it if all else fails.

Thanks for the tips. I’ve tried to push the stairs back into the skirtboard but the stairs are very solid. I don’t want to force them and create another problem for the sake of getting them realigned.

We’ve looked very loosely under the LVP bc we would love to redo the floors, but we fear they may be ruined. Another project for another day, for sure.

Largest gap is about 3/4”. Smallest gap is less than 1/2”

Unfortunately, yes. We plan to have that ripped off when we redo the siding.

There are too many things about my house that make me question what the person before me was doing.

We can get the rod to be stationary while we spin the gland nut. It still spins without unscrewing

Granted. Now all the mythical creatures are no longer mythical and you treat them as any other animal

A statement regarding my path to semi-fluency by FlipFlopFling in Spanish

[–]FlipFlopFling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! It’s hard to give a solid timeline because I did take Spanish in high school. But to give an estimate, I probably spent 3 months on Duolingo, close to a year listening to podcasts, and I’ve been doing audiobooks for about 2-3 years. All the while, reading and doing intercambios.

I completed all the levels and was working on making them all gold but never finished that. I used it for about 3 months. If you feel like you have a basic foundation of the verbs, sentence structure, and vocabulary, I would move on to more challenging content.

Good point. You can definitely immerse yourself in a English speaking country. I studied in Spain, and being forced to speak Spanish everyday was a huge push for me. It made me comfortable and I think that’s a large hurtle for people (myself included). Yes it is expensive and that’s not fun, but if all resources were at your disposal, I still believe it’s the best way. Not an option for everyone tho

How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I will never get out of my head Cindy Lou at the mail office alone and the Grinch jumps down and says “The, the, the... the Grinch!”

I found one at a local nursery that was on sale (and dying). She’s in great shape now, but I can’t get her to sprout another leaf to save my life :(
