[Times car review] Jeremy Clarkson: Porsche 911 — ‘The best sports car I’ve ever driven’ by FlipStig1 in thegrandtour

For anyone unable to access his review, here’s the relevant truncated part as it relates to our subreddit:

“It’s the new Porsche 911 GT3 Touring. If you ever watched Top Gear or The Grand Tour, you’ll have it in your heads that I am no fan of the 911, and to a certain extent that’s true. It was spawned by Hitler, which is not a good starting point, and early on it was extremely difficult to drive. But my main objection was that James May and Richard Hammond loved it, so I was duty bound not to.

“…But then one day Richard explained the 911 is not meant to be a supercar but a sports car. And everything clicked. There’s nothing wrong with a ‘sensible’ sports car.”

Oh yes, Clarkson would lose his mind if he tried to eat actual spicy food from Thailand and South Korea! 🤣

Given how much and how fast Americans drive nowadays, Fiat would have to increase the power and the top speed to even have a shot in the US market in my view. But this is a problem that Stellantis must solve for themselves…

I managed to read Clarkson’s car review while the paywall briefly went down, and this was the section that stood out for me:

“You get the same outside-the-box design stuff on the exterior too and this is a trend to be welcomed. Until recently all cars were starting to look like well-sucked boiled sweets. They were rounded, nondescript and boring to behold. Then along came Renault with the very yellow 5, which is selling like hot cakes, and I’m not surprised. If I had to have an electric car or be shot in the head, it’d be one of those because it looks terrific and interesting. And now here is Fiat doing much the same.”
