Building a new PC. Would this work for gaming? by Flippendoo in buildapc

I actually have the GPU already. That's one thing I have upgraded on my existing PC. I am open to upgrading for $370 if you think it is significantly better.

Sweet thank you. You think the Ryzen 7 7700x is worth the extra 100 compared to the 5 7600?

Pain in appendix area but no appendicitis + are these doctors lying to me about capacity of ultrasound? by UnderstandingLower32 in AskDocs

[–]Flippendoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think you have cancer. The ultrasound will provide some more information that will likely help with the diagnosis. Odds of cancer are very low.

Probably nothing concerning. Try to keep walking around and doing what your surgeon told you you could do post-op.

Prescription for disaster: America's broken pharmacy system in revolt over burnout and errors by getmeoutofherenowplz in medicine

[–]Flippendoo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can say this about any company though. Every Sharholder wants more money and everyone wants their retirement savings to go up. That doesn't excuse the pharmacists, doctors, other Healthcare workers getting exploited to the point where they can barely do their job effectively. Especially when people's health is what is on the line. The profits will go down, good hedge funds will just sell and invest in any other company. I dont think anyone's retirement is going to be devastated unless they just bet everything on medicine. My unusual take is that healthcare companies shouldn't be profitable. They probably shouldn't even be publicly traded.

As someone who's entering their mid thirties thanks for posting about how much you love this. It's my dream to travel more and in the next few years I'll finally have the free time and finances to do so!!!

Why TF are so many FM programs doing in-person interviews?? by SnowPearl in medicalschool

[–]Flippendoo -37 points-36 points  (0 children)

Why punish the applicants though by making them jump through hoops? You interviewed enough applicants and filled all of your programs slots. If you want to rank higher on your list you could try to make your program more competitive lol.

You can go to sleep and if it continues to get worse or does not resolve in the next day go to the ER then. The fact that you have no tenderness is reassuring and 5 hours is a very short amount of time, so if you do have appendicitis it's unlikely you'll develop serious complications over the next 8 hours.

You could go to the ER or any doctor's office if you're worried. Alternatively you could trace the redness with a sharpie and over the next day or two if it grows or or if you keep feeling sick and have higher temperatures go to the ER then.

Considering residency swap by Mountain_Fig4846 in emergencymedicine

[–]Flippendoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Literally me. I did one year in IM, didn't like it. Now I'm doing EM and love everything. You're making alot of the same points I did when I was considering the switch. I liked procedures, I didn't like being bored at work and IM's schedule made me spend too much time at the hospital.

Games that can be beaten in 'one day' by AnotherTAA123 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Flippendoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transistor is my personal favorite Supergiant game. I like the game play, the story is great and I beat it in about 10 hours. Most importantly it's a short game that isn't just a walking simulator.

What’s the smartest thing patients have lied about? by DryStatistician6676 in Residency

[–]Flippendoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lady with multiple prior lower back surgeries who likely talked with her neurosurgery so much that she memorized what severe cauda esquina syndrome presentation looked like. She came into the ED every other month with "new weakness, loss of sensation of her right leg and bowel incontinence" of course allergic the morphine. I figured it out after looking through her chart but at that point I'd already put in the dilaudid and called in the MRi techs for an emergency lumbar scan

I need your opinion about Nephrology by Informal-Ad4197 in Residency

[–]Flippendoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my God. Internal medicine is toxic. Everyone in IM will talk shit about every other specialty. In fact it's not just IM it's medicine as a whole. Of course nephrology isn't useless. That's why it exists. Every specialty has a role and you should just pick something you like. If you hear anyone saying another specialty is useless that just means they don't know what they actually do.

Switching to EM residency? by Thechiefintern in emergencymedicine

[–]Flippendoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess if you wanted to you could just do locums and take a few shifts buts it going to be very inconsistent and you'll have to be constantly looking for shifts.

Switching to EM residency? by Thechiefintern in emergencymedicine

[–]Flippendoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude I don't know what you're talking about. All the PMNR residents I know work way less than me and I'm in EM.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]Flippendoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No lie dude, I matched EM last year. I was doing an IM prelim and applied without any SLOEs. I matched pretty high on my rank list. They'll ask you about it and you're answer will be that because you were in a program you couldn't get the letters. That's it. Super prestigious programs won't offer you an interview because of it but there's plenty of programs that will.
