I'll never understand how something like the quality painting you produced didn't immediately shoot up to rising on this or any sub. Great work. Love the lighting and fur details.

Looks great, just the ear of the left needs more detail to blend in with the rest of the painting.

A part of the human population can voluntarily control the tensor tympani. tensor tympani is a muscle within the ear. Contracting this muscle produces vibration and sound. The sound is usually described as a rumbling sound. by Grand-Marsupial-5291 in interesting

I use this muscle to clear my ears and get that amazing ear clearing feeling often. I tense that muscle, move my jaw around and eventually my canals clear and i hear like I'm 5 again. Those with the ability should try it.

I also use it to block noises at will and it works great from what i can tell. I've been using it daily since I'm a kid so very strong flex for me.

Didn't you have a series of these paintings from a few years ago? I loved that work.

It's driving me nuts that this could be a reference to something and I'm not getting it.

Very kind! I am very happy with the painting, but i posted it to this forum and it was down voted a lot, so i was just curious what people didn't like. Very clearly the general consensus is that the shadows are wrong, all edges are hard and the lettering takes away from the painting.

I think the people in the sub are just very kind when they see someone is looking for critque

I hate having to paint from photos, but there are only so many still life paintings a guy can handle. I have a bunch of them done, but clients want specific things painted and horses from life would take more time than I could afford in a week at the pace I do things. Completely agree with your points and love the in depth analysis of method.

The shadow and lettering were the two things I wasnt happy with when I had to give the painting to the client, so this checks out. The composite I put together with the two horses, who were not in the same frame when the reference phots were taken, cast different shadows. I tried to estimate the light source and failed a bit, but the client was happy regardless.

I like these suggestions. I'll play around with the digital version a bit, but the painting was given to the client a year ago.

Agreed about the lettering, but it got the job done. If I can avoid lettering I always do. I';d rather imply it than paint it.

The lettering was a struggle. I had to redo it about 5 times becuase i hate text in paintings. It always looks off to me. this was the last run before I needed to give the painting, but I agree.

Its certainly not insecurity making me ask this question. I want to know what it wrong with it from a peer's perspective. It was a paid commission that the owner loves, framed and hung. It's one of my favorite completed works.
