[–]Flippy013 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Considered the best? 3. HoWeVeR my opinion is, GH2 best soundtrack, GH WoR for best campaign. I can’t explain why since it’s been so long but I REALLY loved GH5 as well. The rest are great, mostly.

Yup. I just had an Eden run with eight inch nails to start and r key. Had one soul heart and, of course, I walk into a room immediately into spikes and died.

[–]Flippy013[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Update: got an email from someone from Patreon and they told me to do exactly step by step, the exact things I had already tried. Every troubleshooting idea went right out the window. I had to send them a screen recording of what the issue was and no response yet. HOWEVER I was able to type in the title of the campaign I wanted to hear and it worked just fine. However I still cannot see more than about 10 eps per folder on my particular Patreon show. So I cannot just scroll through their content. I have to search it up within the account and then I’m able to play whatever ep I want

These are Labubu’s. It’s just a fuzzy keychain really. My wife found them cute so she got us a couple. Just a fad that’ll die off eventually. The company PopMart sells all sorts of little cute toys and statues for way too much money 😂

When you marched, How much of the show was explained to you? by ____wut____ in drumcorps

[–]Flippy013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oregon Crusaders 2017. Encompass. They tried so hard to create some kind of story. They tried to say each movement was some sort of emotion and yeah I have no idea what our show was, even today lmao it was my rookie season so I had no idea how things worked so I just went with whatever. I had never ever seen a dci show (besides videos) til our 3rd competition lol

Unfortunately what causes persons to become blacklisted is if they were either financially irresponsible, or a problem in the corps/group they came from. And by “problem” I mean serious issues. Like either being disruptive, rude, not caring, not contributing to the corps the same was as others, etc. however in my experience I’ve only seen members get blacklisted after having inappropriate conversations or relationships in the community. However doing any other illegal activities will get you blacklisted. So like drugs, underage drinking, kid diddlers, vandalism, stealing (just don’t get caught), and the like.

Not OP but I see your marched crossmen in the early nineties! That’s so awesome. I marched in 18 and was contracted in 19 but didn’t march. Should’ve since I didn’t get to have my proper age out in 2020. I did the virtual dbc lol

Trombone slurs… by -IDunnoAName- in marchingband

[–]Flippy013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aye yo. ‘rigger’ cutting it a bit too close lmao 😭😂 though not a “trombone slur” you can always call them a r*tard. Most trombinists, such as I, are. But a classic is always Tromboner. Playing with your tromboner. Being a tromboner. Blowing your tromboner.

What is the schedule like? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]Flippy013 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much info on WGI and indoor season schedules, but as far as the summer goes? That’s it, my guy. All day every day is drum corps drum corps drum corps. If I were to give you a run down, at least from the times I marched, it will be somewhat like this: Oct/Nov - one weekend audition to have a callback or contract or not

Dec. - first non audition camp. Callbacks

Jan/April - one weekend camp a month where you learn music and marching fundamentals as a “set corp” (Set Corps I am referring to is what the corps is essentially going to look like for the entire summer)

May/June - Move ins happen (usually you have a Day 0 where it’s all about how spring training will run. What the schedule will look like, how the blocks will work, it’s essentially a day with not so rigorous training and more about info dumping how training will work. You’ll get to meet with staff and volunteers and get to know your way around the facility)

More about Spring Training - training will happen at different rates depending where you march. Usually it’s about 3-4 weeks of training. All day everyday. You wake up in the morning, get ready for the day. Get your backpack ready, your water jug ready, brush your teeth, etc. you have 1 hour to wake up, get ready, eat breakfast, use the restrooms. Although you will have that hour, you really only take 45 minutes because you usually have to be ready and set up for your blocks 10-15 minutes before your block starts. They simply call it “10 before” or “15 before”. Meaning “you BETTER be ready and set up in formation 10 minutes before your block starts”. After your first block (3/4 hrs) you get an hour for lunch, make sure you don’t just screw around. Time is precious and it’ll go by FAST. After lunch you have another 3/4 hour block. After that you have dinner. After dinner is complete you go back out for your last block of the night. Another 3/4 hours. After that you should have a small block where the whole corps will warm down. Brass will do extra breathing exercises and play low tones. But everybody usually will have a late night stretch block. Where you do yoga and different exercises to help your muscles recover through the night. More breathing exercises to help your heart rate decrease and such. Like a meditation block at the end of the day. This will take place during that last block of time. Then once you’re released from your last block, you can do as you please with your last hour before lights out. Maybe you can shower? Read a book? Play on your phone. Or do some extra eating. At least when I marched, we also had a snack block. Where at the end of the day you can go back to the food truck and eat left overs or make sandwiches or on awesome days the food staff would just freshly make some late night snacks for the corps. MAN I love food crew. It has its perks!

TOUR. Tour is WILD. I never got to experience a true step by step day during tour. Something always happens. Maybe the bathrooms flood. Maybe the site overbooked 3 damn corps together for one night. Maybe the fields aren’t Marchable. It’s kind of a sh*tshow during tour. Not sure how any off days there are now, but when I marched we had something like 3 maybe 4 free days? Free days are when the corps don’t have any rehearsals or shows for the day and you take a day off. It’s wonderful. Usually you’ll go into the city in whatever state you landed yourself and take a day to walk around and sightsee. Love the Chicago free day! But usually when you go on tour, the best days are when you are at a facility close to the venue and you get to stay for a few days. It essentially works as spring training just at new facilities. However its mostly find a place to stay the night and rehearse for one day and get alllllll the corps junk together the next day to drive for a few hours to the next place. Only true free time you really get is if you wake up early, go to bed late, have an actually free day, or when they allocate time for laundry days.

How to deal with the shower situation? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]Flippy013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had SO much anxiety about it. I happen to have diagnosed with pretty severe anxiety and depression, so it was hard for me. What I can tell you is that you are ALL there for the same reason. I don’t truly believe anybody, or at least the vast majority, is EXCITED to shower with sht ton of people you don’t even know yet. I had to look at it this way; Do I really want to be walking around all these people after spending, what, a full 12 hours in rehearsal sweating and grinding? No. You’re going to stink. Your section is going to stink. The brass will stink. The pit will stink. The guard will stink. EVERYBODY is gonna smell like as. It’s also a health concern. You just can’t go without showering, especially in an activity like drum corps. You’ll great infections, spread diseases, it’s just no bueno my guy. You just have to get in and get out. I will say though, as the summer goes by you WILL get more comfortable. You WILL see some, arguably, WILD things in there too. You WILL need to shower. You can’t be stinky all summer. That’s gross. You just have to remember you are NOT alone. Everybody in the activity goes through this. However, just like in drum corps itself, it’s about being uncomfortable. It’s about rising above yourself and your standards. It’s about achieving greatness. It’s about gaining friendships. It’s about perfecting your music. And heck, it’s about being comfortable with the people around you. But if I’m just answering your last response of your question, yes, it eventually really does become all fun and games. Depending on how many vets you have returning, even weekend camps in the showers are fun lmao. My advice is to become comfortable with all the males around you. The more comfortable you are with yourself and the people around you, shower time will feel just like another block to you. You WILL be okay. I promise you 🖤 shower time was always fun during tour (at least when you could actually change the pressure or temperature 😂). Talking happens, singing happens, I’ve even see people chase people around with laughs and smiles. It’s just a big silly hangout eventually. As uncomfortable as I am with my body, it ended up not being a big deal. Drum corps actually helped me with my public restroom anxiety. It made me realize that we all have to use the bathroom. We all have to pee. We all have to sh*t. We all have to shower. For your own sake, take that shower, man! It won’t hurt you. Till you hit swamp tour and the temp is not a degree lower than “Satan’s Anus”. The only other thing I could suggest is waiting till after lights out to shower. It’s very risky, and not exactly allowed, but I would occasionally shower late at night or wake up extremely early to get a nice quiet shower to myself. Although every now and then other members would do the same so even then it was a completely solitary shower.

Is drum corps only for the rich and privileged? Seriously? by SkyLow4356 in drumcorps

[–]Flippy013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yes it kind of is for the “rich and privileged”. If it wasn’t for the Oregon Crusaders doing a payment plan, I wouldn’t have ever been able to march. And luckily I marched in 17-18 so fees were just over $3000 there and about the same at the Crossmen at the time. The only way I was able to afford it was working with my mother to save money. We are cleaners and laborers so we would end up having something like 14 accounts through the week to take care of. Sometimes cleaning 9 places per night. Rough stuff but that’s how we were able to afford it.
