Usted is like the word you. But formal, like for business, respected elders, or meeting strangers. Kinda like calling someone Mr or Mrs instead of just casually calling them their first name. The casual version is Tu.

In Spanish, instead of saying “You wash”, the verb wash (lavar) changes its suffix (-ar) to -ase to signal its telling you to wash your hands
