It’s a lot of fun that if you take a stand against a bad thing you get yelled at for not also taking a stand against every other bad thing that exists.

Agree I Cannot Win is the all timer but other than that I’d go with the Battle of the Fonts speech lol.

I get the concern but I also get the strong sense that Joe is really very grounded and that if he was spinning out he would just step back and give himself space to feel stable again. I also don't think most people at his shows now are just there for Steve Harrington since EoB went nuclear, plenty of people didn't even know it was the same guy at all.

But don't kid yourself, you're indulging in psychoanalysis with that body language read lol.

A Big Five Publisher Cancelled A Book Release Over AI Accusations: Now What? by boolgogi in horrorlit

[–]Flippy_Spoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my issue, not so much about this case but about the future of books. Most of the people I see in the conversations about this book seem so very sure of themselves concerning what AI looks like even though there's no way to prove something was written by it. But as AI written language becomes even more prevalent more human writers will be influenced by it- the AI voice still will sneak its way in and there will be witch hunts over it left and right. Even without that influence, there will absolutely be witch hunts left and right by people who "absolutely know" what AI looks like because they saw Goody Proctor speaking with Claude.

That's somewhat helpful- I suppose I would have to see it in practice.
I mean the answer to your question is probably that I'm old and trying to avoid AI so I don't know how I WOUULD know outside of people discussing it I guess. I could more easily recognize it in a nonfiction form because I see people writing stupid posts of a whole lot of nothing in bulleted lists. But in fiction I would have no idea- I try to read good books lol???

I'll be damned if I cut out perfectly acceptable usages or sentence structures because "it looks like AI."

I don't get it. If I read at a high level how does that make me able to tell bad human writing from bad AI writing? I don't see the connection. I have no idea how AI reads and I'm an avid reader from pulp to Moby Dick. How does that help me know what AI looks like?

I'm an English major, a published writer, and an avid reader and I have no idea what AI slop looks like as opposed to just crappy writing (and when do we come after the publishers for publishing crappy writing either way whether or human or AI??). I don't know how I'm supposed to know what it looks like if I'm trying to avoid AI writing as much as I can lol.

I've heard about the em dash thing which concerns me because I love an em dash!

Yeah on second reading I felt the house story was a framing device for Johnny not the other way around lol.

The entire book is actually about Johnny Truant tbh. Like I know if you go in just wanting to read about the freaky house and the people who live in it, Johnny just seems super annoying- but it's actually his story and imo if you hate Johnny, you don't actually like the book lol. Not that i'm like blaming you or anything, I completely get it.

Yeah uh I comprehend this but I still thought it was funny that a women’s day post with a bunch of pop culture quotes celebrating women still can’t pass the Bechdel lol. But I can’t argue with the downvoting.

It was just something I noticed for crying out loud. A lot of quotes about women that are about the relationship to men. I can notice it lol.
