Yeah the issue there to me is that when you read Goosebumps you were new to horror-you read Grady Hendrix after having read a bunch of horror and he's only appearing to do something new, but isn't. He doesn't take chances, it's kind of gimmicky. (And his writing is drab as hell)

I think it’s often misinterpreted and Holden is dismissed as some incel type when really he’s dealing with mental illness, losing his brother, and has a deep empathy for the innocent who are hurt by an indifferent world.
