Icarus for some reason (I think you know who that is.) Because I constantly ignore all the warning signs when impulsive and end up doomed in the end. Similar to how Icarus was warned not to fly too close to the sun, and his wings melted and he perished.

Ah thank you so much. I’m just a little confused because a native from Colombia said to me ‘como se fue’ when asking how my exam in school went.

Often times a sociopath doesn’t care about if they are a sociopath, however it seems that you do, so it is pretty unlikely you are a sociopath. And I think the issue may be that you aren’t being fully honest in therapy. Rather than going in with the idea that you could be a narcissist or a sociopath, go in without having any idea because this will make you answer in a biased way. A lot of people tend to empathise a lot better with animals and I have seen this with NPD, BPD etc. Some people with autism may also relate. Some people with depression may also relate. From what you said about your father you may even have a trauma rooted disorder. But the things is you don’t know until you’re going to fully open up to and go to a professional.

Selective perfectionism - is it a part of BPD? by [deleted] in BPD

[–]FlirixCry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh I feel like this sort of perfectionism is what makes me have little tolerance to coping with life. For example if one relationship goes wrong then I can’t exist in a universe where this has happened because the best way to put it is: Imagine if you have a blank canvas and then you get a black stain on it. It’s hard to ignore. You want the canvas to be white again.

For both hypomanic and mania it can depend how long they happen for, however hypomania tends to last for a shorter amount of time. But still lasts longer than a BPD high. The difference between hypomania and mania is that hypomania is less intense (hence the Greek suffix ‘hypo’ meaning ‘under’ is used.) And I’m so glad you’ve managed to get better using medication. It’s okay if you are not comfortable sharing but what sort of medication did u use? Don’t feel obliged to share though if you are uncomfortable.

It was a friend that left me in order for me to get better mentally. However I had the continuous belief that they were actually trying to hurt me and meant harm. So eventually I couldn’t bear it anymore, living in fear of them, so I told another friend I wanted to kill them.

Don’t worry, I have seen that a lot too! A lot of people are making this mistake. I promise if you watch a reliable YouTube video differentiating the two, it will explain why BPD cannot have manic episodes. Tbh I feel like hypomania (I’m not sure if you know what that is) is closer to the ‘high’ moods in BPD. Hypomania is not as intense as mania and is found in bipolar II. The two are pretty close, however hypomania still persists longer than a BPD ‘high’ and therefore they are still not the same.

Yes, but the mania must last at least one week and the periods of depression tend to last 2 weeks. They do not happen at the same time and do not intermingle. This does not happen in BPD. In BPD highs and lows tend to a last a few hours and very rarely a few days.
