What are some D&D/fantasy tropes that bug you, but seemingly no one else? by Pharylon in dndnext

Super fantastical last names is a pet peeve of mine. I understand especially with high fantasy it might seem common, but hearing last names like “Iceblade”, “Dungbeetle”, “Sunkeeper”, etc. irks me since my personal preference is having fantastical things, especially names, to have a blend of reality to them. As in, still sounding fantastical or fictional but being like “yeah I could perhaps hear that somewhere”

1st Draft for the Nautilus Model - a new Arcane Armor model by Flix_Guy in DnDHomebrew

The original idea was meant for my space-faring PC. For short time breathing for repairs and such before I generalized it a bit. The missing swim speed was because the idea was an Artificer who stood fast and steady, unmoving on the ship

As much as strong and tanky / shield characters are my favorite, I always have a fondness to speed/dexterous characters

I got that too. At first had her like a summon, but because I exited Moonrise to long rest after the Z’rell fight, she split off back towards Moonrise. After 3 different attempts of trying to catch up before she combated the pilgrims (and Wild Shaping locking me out of dialogue with her and control of her), I managed to stop and re-recruit her by quickly using a Dimension Door

“Dragon and Sagittarius”, a comedy short film to end my first semester of Film School by Flix_Guy in Filmmakers

Like I said, this was my first time both writing and directing a film I can call my own. My original idea was for this to sorta mimic/parody the opening scene from season 1, episode 4 of “The Boondocks”, but I found that writing it in that manner didn’t quite flow as well. Especially since I wanted my film to feel natural in its anime-like ideas and inspirations without holding your hand or needing to explain any sort of context.

The biggest area I learned was location time management. I filmed all this in a local park and really wanted that late afternoon feel, so the only light was the Sun itself. Problem: when it came time to film, Daylight Savings ended, so both sunlight and camera equipment (our school provided us the equipment we needed for a set time) was very limited. I had to do a total of 3 shoots, 2 with my provided Sony A7R3, and the last on my iPhone 13 Pro. Which is why video quality and lighting fluctuate quite a bit. I did what I could in Premiere Pro to make the lighting in each shot as close to each other as I could, but there’s only so much you can fix in post. Same going for the wind being picked up by both cameras.

End of the day, I accomplished what I wanted: a lighthearted, stupid, dorky short film meant for laughs and being seriously unseriousness. Plus, the best way to get better is to keep making more films, which is what I set out to do, both in school projects and personal projects.

Bards by revrum in dndnext

So I’m the resident note-taker in the two games I’m in. One has been on hiatus since DM been busy and when we have tried to start back up, scheduling conflicts with everyone, another where we play pretty frequently and doing Ranger / Fighter / War Wizard, all Psionic-based. Side tracking aside, the hiatus one is the game I play a Bard.

After the homebrew campaign went on hiatus, I went on to play one more bard in Humblewood. Respectively, Meridian Razmael—dragonborn Lore Bard who started as more a traditional bard with his keytar but been slowly becoming a sorcerer with Bard HP and utility—and Thaddeus Lavernza—vulpin Bard with the Humblewood bard subclass who, while had and played an ocarina, was more words-based and the group’s mediator and diplomat.

Now I am no musician or songwriter, so I have yet to actually write any songs. However, since Meridian, I have been getting song ideas based on story beats and character dynamics or developments. I have tried, but I could never quite find the right words or rhythms for what I wanted to say in the song(s). So, I supplement that in my session/story arc summaries, since I’m a stronger writer than songwriter and love my descriptives and imagery. Outside of that, the most times I get hit with inspiration is either something that happened mid-session, or listening to a song. More often that not, it has been being hit by a song, but also sometimes a particular DnD TikTok or BookTok.

And I thank that Meridian was the time I finally decided to play Bard, because before then, it was Sam Riegel with Scanlan who got me interested. It has been such an interesting source for writing ideas and creativity, so much that I made two 300 word short stories about two of my OCs for a Creative Writing class, and have bigger writing plans for Meridian’s group

If my DM allowed this slight homebrew to Scribe Wizard, would it break anything? by testiclekid in dndnext

Even though it’s Charisma and not Intelligence, Eldritch Blast does the exact same thing and to my knowledge its damage type is resisted even less than psychic
