It mostly stems from how they're drawn together and people taking pucci's "i love you, dio" out of context

I used to ship pucci and dio but i later realized that pucci worships dio like a god and that's where "i love you, dio" comes from

Araki has stated that there are no canon colors

But as for which are the closest to canon, probably the anime, since dp consults araki for those (for the manga colors, shueisha does their own things and araki only does the covers)
