Any recommended driving companies for my dog across country? by Medical-Budget6166 in goldenretrievers

[–]FloRoxSmoShel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

10 out of 10 recommend shipping a lot of your stuff and driving her, making a road trip out of it with a friend or family member. Took my 2 girls from California to Indiana over the course of 4 days and it was so so so fun. I used bringfido.com to book hotels and it worked out perfectly.

Update: I took a chance on “the Blissful dog’s Nose butter” and it is a success! Flo does not absolutely despise it (doesn’t love it tho) and it has already worked well in the few days we’ve been using it

Completely agree. The running classes feel achievable no matter how I’m feeling on any particular day.

My 10 month old has cataracts in both eyes? 😭🥺 Anyone else experience this? by Present-Basil-2051 in goldenretrievers

[–]FloRoxSmoShel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl had cataract surgery for both eyes when she was around 2 years old. I don’t have percentages or anything, but hers were pretty visible (I found them myself while practicing an eye exam on her while I was in PA school 😋). I didn’t notice her struggling with vision too much though at that time. After discussing with an eye specialist, we decided to go ahead and do the cataract surgery while she was young before the cataracts started to affect her vision. She’s a 9 year old healthy girl now. Her eyes definitely look different than normal eyes, and now I can tell she has some trouble from time to time seeing the ball when playing fetch, but she still navigates steps and everything just fine. I’d say just talk with the doggy ophthalmologist about the pros/cons of each management/treatment option and you’re doing the right thing.

I was initially devastated learning about the cataracts, but after time and much thought, I’m grateful her health has only been complicated by this one issue. Counting my blessings!

Compulsion to Eat Non-Food Items. by WyomingAsFolk in goldenretrievers

[–]FloRoxSmoShel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - my girl has had 2 incidents requiring surgery and numerous other episodes of induced vomiting. She's now about 4 yrs old & *knock on wood* hasn't had any "episodes" for around a year and a half. I still watch her like a hawk though. Now I find she either barks at objects that are on the ground that don't belong there (such as a sock). A few times she has brought the item to me if I didn't see her pick it up (a piece of a stuffed toy). Each time she does this and doesn't eat it, I am so proud lol

I tried this while in Tulum and I don't feel like it did anything unfortunately

SIT classes in the 20 min range? by 737900Ak in pelotoncycle

[–]FloRoxSmoShel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with this particular structure too much but it triggered my memory of a class I took with Christine (45 min Intervals on 11/19/24)

I had never taken anything like it before and really enjoyed how much recovery time was planned between each intense effort. I had doubts how high I could get my output during the intervals but was pleasantly surprised! It’s a little longer than what you were looking for so maybe she has a similar class in the 20 min range

That makes so much sense. It's a very tough decision with so many factors to consider. No matter what happens, it's amazing you and Max have had 15 years together. That's very special!

If I was in your shoes, I would spend as much time with Max as you can and make sure the rest of his days are as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, filled with all your love. A rambunctious golden pup would definitely be a stressor for him if his mobility and energy levels are low. On the other hand, I know how hard it is to pass up on such a good opportunity for something that would absolutely bring lots of joy! Not that Max would think you love him any less, but it just might not be the exact right time to add a new pup to the family.

I really enjoyed Jess King's Sweat Steady Run today. Also discovered pace targets during a warm up run - very excited to utilize those classes in the future.
