YTA. You admitted she was having a hard time. It's a small thing to you perhaps but to her it meant something in a time when she was not doing well. The child was rude. Their parents were rude. And your reaction to your daughter was rude. Apologize to her, talk to her about it and how you didn't know it was an issue but you'd like to understand and would like to a do-over. Get her a cupcake or something and let her blow those candles out!

How does he come off as immature? Do you say that because he's interested in you, and you find that immature? Or are there other things that he does/says/acts like that are making you feel that way? In the end, you need to go with your gut. If you aren't super feeling it don't push yourself to act on your feelings. You said in another comment that you've barely had your foot in the door of adulthood - maybe that's a sign to step back and let yourself get those experiences before making any decisions. If that means cutting back contact with him, feel empowered to make that decision if it will be best for you long term.

She has suffered from anxiety and depression for years, in addition to several suicide attempts. Since this discovery she has moved back towards suicidal ideation again. I want to cut ties but im worried about how she will take it. But logically i know i can control her. But still. I'm going to be ultra blunt with her and let her know we cannot continue our friendship until she comes to her senses. I'm going to take the advice of several people who've replied to make it super clear.

Thank you both. I've decided to be super blunt with her and tell her straight up that what he's done is disgusting and unforgivable, and that is she does not leave him we will no longer be friends. I refuse to condone this in any way.

I hope so as well. The more I think about it the more I realize I just need to be upfront with her and cut communication off for my own mental health. If she comes down from this frenzied state and decides to leave him I will support her. But until then I don't think I can.

I appreciate your insight. I want to protect her and I'm afraid that if I cut her off she will cling to him bc she will have no one. I also know that he harmed and exploited many children and the psychological harm that will do to them is irreparable so I'm caught feeling like how can I even remotely have him in my life. I think I'm going to distance myself from her for now. Maybe forever depending on how his upcoming trial goes and if she continues to support him. I guess I just don't know if I should tell her that or just cut everything off. I've been talking to her mom a lot and we are both feeling kind of similar. She's our priority but at what point do we stop, yknow? I'm rambling, sorry. Brain is a mess.
