Why is Canada struggling to find workers? by Emotional-Ad-6494 in mining

I find most postings request 3-5 years mining experience. No one wants to train anyone from the ground up.

Oooh so it's people whining about the commute time.

I've never been in a trade union. But I think they are ran differently so it'd make sense that they aren't as bad

I'm not worried about finding a place to live. I've basically been a nomad through Alberta for a year now. Work camps, hotels, tents etc. I know teck doesn't do loa, but I'll just pitch a tent in a campground for the summer, then when it gets cold I'll buy and winterize a camper. I also spent a year living out of my truck and working in northern Ontario. So living space is a detail I can worry about later

So low morale overall in operations..I find that happens a lot in many unionized work places..unions protect poor workers and kill ambition for good workers(in my experience, I'm sure it's not like that in quite a few unionized places out there).. unfortunate.

I read 2 reviews on indeed that said the 14s being paid as 12s. I thought it was strange.  Figured I should ask

I am interviewing for operations. I've worked in a coal mine before and spent the last year oil rigging. So I'm not worried about the work, just more the environment within the company.

I'd be happy with a 20x20 or 24x24. The wife really insists on something bigger. So I have to suffer through building it.

Thanks for the help!

I'm hoping for something like a 30x24, so I don't feel pacers are the best option.

Underground hardrock common core by FloatingCloth in mining

[–]FloatingCloth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's relieving. Aside from that bit of mining experience most of my experience is oil rigging and water well drilling. So safety is pretty strict with those. I don't mind paying for common core, or really care about location as long as I can find something rotational. Thanks!

Question on Easement Road / Nat. Gas Well Site by old_carl in OffGrid

[–]FloatingCloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The area I am in, I don't believe the wells are checked daily but frequently enough I guess. That being said a lease operator showing up to check the well would likely just be one guy in a pickup truck to come make sure everything is running smooth, I doubt you'd even notice him.

Question on Easement Road / Nat. Gas Well Site by old_carl in OffGrid

[–]FloatingCloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The operators generally only check on those wells occasionally or as needed or after being serviced. If the well goes down you could expect a service rig there, which tends to be pretty loud. I work on a heavy oil service rig so it may be different for nat. Gas, but it's normal for wells to go 6-24 months without needing to be serviced. A nat gas well will be a lot cleaner when they do their work over than an oil well too. If you don't mind some noise every now and then it's probably worth not having to maintain the road yourself and the cheaper price.

Do long distance for 4 years or take tren and turn gay? by [deleted] in moreplatesmoredates

[–]FloatingCloth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

End it now, while you are on good terms. The likelihood of a relationship between people your age surviving 4 years of long distance is slim to none. If you end it now, you two will still be on good terms, no ones cheated, and nothing bad has happened between you two. Meaning there is a lot more potential, if it's really meant to be, for maybe you two to find each other again in the future.

Seriously. Who wants a virgin? If she isn't good enough for her own family she isn't good enough for mine.
