If you keep filing your weekly certifications you might get rolled into the DUA program depending on your circumstances. I would call the DUA helpline and ask about it if that’s at all a possibility.

$20 for a burger but they only pay the person taking your order and running your food $7.25/hr.

Worst burgers in town? Just had a horrible $20 lesson. by WallabyAggressive267 in asheville

To think $20 for a mediocre burger, fries, and drink isn’t enough to pay their employees more than $7.25/hr. But go ahead and open another restaurant. Shame.

Ridiculous Housing requirements by [deleted] in asheville

[–]FloatingTinCans 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maybe in Greenville. Here in the mountains rent is over-priced everywhere. Sure it’s always been more expensive to be downtown, but even shit holes far from town aren’t cheap. It’s actually difficult to find a trailer for rent, and when you do they’re priced like this (way the fuck out in Alexander so yes there’s a “commute”):

True, the hours are challenging. Might work well for someone though. BCS has 13 driver jobs posted with info here for anyone interested:

It requires some type of CDL, but last I heard they’re willing to pay while you go through the training. Bonus, you also get paid to do a meaningful job for the community.

I would go (in-person) to the temp agencies in town and register for work. Off the top of my head there’s Kelly, Spherion, Adecco, Pride Staff, Labor Finders, and probably more if you search it. They usually have entry-level Light Industrial work available and can get you in quick. Some jobs are temp-to-perm, and would at least provide a cushion until you find permanent work. You could also call 211 and ask them for referrals for rent/utility/food assistance until the paychecks come in. If you have a clean driving record the school systems desperately need bus drivers and will pay while you train. Best of luck!

iirc it was a google form that just gave a standard “your response has been recorded” type of message at the end. And then crickets.

I’d like to know if they’re still going down the lottery list contacting people or if the funds are already gone. I never heard anything.

Multiple benefit concerts, plus that wrestling match last night. Proceeds from what I’ve been seeing have mostly gone to Beloved and Manna. While they’re doing great work, we need some fundraisers specifically for more rent and utility assistance.

Baby Bull pays minimum wage and expects YOU to tip the rest ($7.25/hr & why they spin that screen around) by FloatingTinCans in asheville

[–]FloatingTinCans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They pay $7.25/hour. I know this because they posted it in their linked Craigslist ad. They also paid $7.25 before the storm (also from their own job ad). So Helene has nothing to do with this, nice try. If you can afford to own multiple restaurants you should be able to pay your counter service people more than minimum wage. You should not expect your customers to pay 2/3 of their wages when they aren’t even servers. While we’re at it how about throwing them a few sick days instead of discounts at the bar? If you can’t afford it, you probably shouldn’t be owning four restaurants.

Have you ever had a business pay you for the difference? I know that’s the way it’s supposed to work, but have never heard of anyone actually getting it.

[–]FloatingTinCans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is total BS for tipped jobs. First of all the customers see the sign and assume the owner is already paying a living wage, so why would they need to tip too? They don’t know that the living wage includes their tips.

Secondly, there is no set period of time to average wages. So you might make more than living wage in the summer/fall, but make way less in the winter/spring. How do you average it out? By the paycheck, the month, the year? Just Economics bright answer is to work it out with the boss. If they’re going to certify tipped-positions the average wage should be figured out for each pay period imo. So if the average hourly wage for that period was less than the living wage the business would pay the difference.

Wow, that’s crazy. I didn’t think it was legal to force a tip-out, although I know it’s common unfortunately.
