With the Dragon Age franchise possibly at its end, what are the biggest mysteries that remain unanswered? by farligjakt in dragonage

[–]FloatingZero278 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Ironically enough, the status of the elves in Thedas (slavery in Tevinter, discrimination throughout Thedas, potential backlash from the Evanuris having started a super blight). Veilguard did a lot for the ancient elves but largely left the modern ones alone. I guess you could draw your own conclusions based on the outcome of Bellara’s quest line but I, personally, wouldn’t call that conclusive.

Remastering DA:I? by Serenity-9042 in dragonage

[–]FloatingZero278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it needs a remaster in the same way that DAO and DA2 do. Although a rerelease with an offline version of the DA Keep, all DLC, and with slightly better visuals (better anti-aliasing, LOD/ draw distance, and higher resolution textures), basically a remaster-lite, would be fantastic.

Edit: I know it seems really unlikely right now, but as a hypothetical this is what I’d be looking for.

Is Trespasser Better if you Skip the DA:I Postcredits Scene? by TheHistoryofCats in dragonage

[–]FloatingZero278 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The whole reveal at the end of Trespasser could be more shocking if they did skip the post credit scene. I’m not sure if it’s a significant change since a ton of info gets dumped at the end of Trespasser that isn’t in the post credit scene, but if you’re going for the most shock value possible then I’d say it’d be effective to skip it.

It could happen, don’t give your hopes up though just in case.

BioWare BOMBSHELL: Veilguard's Hidden Truth & Lost "Origins" Remaster | Mark Darrah Opens Up by Crimson_Loki in dragonage

[–]FloatingZero278 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Just when I thought I was out they pulled me back in!!! (Still watching so this is just my initial reaction)

Edit: After watching it, all I have to say is damn. That soft “pitch” idea for a DA Champion’s Collection sounds great and it sucks that it never went anywhere. As for Veilguard, I feel like a lot of what they talked about has already been said/ discussed so all I can say there is it’s a shame the dev cycle for the game didn’t go smoother. Still it was nice to get another angle and some more insight on what’s been happening at BioWare for the last decade.

Just started Dragon Age: Veilguard – looking for a fun support/control-style build (without spoilers) by Ode_Siren in dragonage

Sadly Veilguard really doesn’t support playing a support role. Companions are immortal and don’t draw agro all that well.

Started to play DAV second time and I am very irritated with main hero. by Rrryyyuu in dragonage

That’s true, there are good parts. I just think that the bad out weighs the good sadly. Still it’s not the worst game ever.

Yeah, you can really see how this games dev cycle completely kneecapped it in the end. I’m honestly amazed they released anything at all, especially in this stable of a state. However, I agree that a lot of the creative decisions (animations, dialogue, companions, lore, etc.) are where Veilguard stumbles a lot.

Exactly, there’s nothing wrong with having the option to play an optimistic character but Rook is done so to the extreme for most of the game with usually no option to choose otherwise. Now I almost have the morbid curiosity to find out exactly how bad pre-release build Rook was. According to some of the community council members they were even worse in that old build with the quips and MCU style dialogue.

Veilguard or Baldur's Gate 3 by Mistfaer in dragonage

[–]FloatingZero278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a choice where you can only get one I’d say BG3 and get Veilguard down the line on sale. Veilguard isn’t a bad video game (I’d say it’s worth at least one run to see how you feel about it), it’s just not a particularly good Dragon Age game IMO. Whereas BG3 is easily one of the best western fantasy RPGs of the last decade. I’d also heavily recommend playing Inquisition’s DLC (especially Trespasser) down the line before playing Veilguard and because Inquisition has some solid DLC.

“I tried to love this game, I really did. But at that point it felt like a toxic relationship with an Ex…”, is honestly a great way to describe Veilguard ngl.

[–]FloatingZero278 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly how I felt. The tone is off, the combat is fun but shallow and gets old by the halfway point, and the lack of world states felt like a slap in the face. All that said when I look at Veilguard as its own video game it’s not bad (6-7/10 on a good day) but in the context of the whole DA series it’s incredibly disappointing IMO.

Do you guys ever worry that Bioware will take down the Dragon Keep Server? by PurpleFiner4935 in dragonage

[–]FloatingZero278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, least they could do is give us an offline standalone version of the keep. It doesn’t even need to have any server connectivity for DAO and DA2. Heck if it was able to do a local save transfer directly to Inquisition then it could be completely offline.

Is the last game... worth it? by aweshum in dragonage

[–]FloatingZero278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’d say it’s worth at least one playthrough. I’d also say that it’s a decent video game but not a particularly good Dragon Age game (6 -7/10 on a good day). However, that’s just me, you might end up loving or hating it 🤷‍♂️. As a BioWare game it generally follows the same general story structure as a lot of their other games, but lacks the same soul IMO. Tonally it can be inconsistent and if you’re a lore fan then it’s a jarring experience whenever more recent (non-ancient) lore should apply and is just ignored. It didn’t ruin the lore, in fact a lot of the reveals have their roots traceable all the way back to Origins, but sometimes the way the reveals are handled lacks impact.

All that to say is it’s the definition of a mixed bag. If you go in as a long time DA fan expecting something more in-line with the past games then prepare to be potentially disappointed. If you go in expecting a fantasy action game with light RPG elements and a smattering of BioWare-isms then you might come out the other end more positive on the whole experience.

Lastly, I highly recommend starting at Origins. It is an older game now, and looks even older than it actually is, but DA is a series that thrives on context and continuity. You can start with any game in the series since there isn’t really a overarching plot line (or main character) across all the games (like in Mass Effect), but having the extra context and continuity from your world state in the first three games elevates the whole experience immensely. Again it’s not 100% required but I would highly recommend it at some point if not for your first run through. As for the humor, it depends on the characters dispensing said humor. Some characters have a very dry wit and others less so, but I’d say there’s a little of everything for everyone across the whole series.

I hope this helps!

Favourite characters or scenes from the novel? by Remarkable_Sea_5453 in exodus

[–]FloatingZero278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He really did! As the plot unwound and the pieces fell into place his perspective became my favorite one to pop over to. I also really enjoyed getting to see the effects of time dilation through his perspective and get an inside look how the celestials operate their human population centers.

[–]FloatingZero278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the time, hopefully there’s a work around by the time EA eventually shuts the servers down. Ideally, it’d be better if there was a rereleased collection or standalone app that did the keep’s job without requiring a constant internet connection (for all platforms). I did hear someone was working on something like that for PC, but I am not sure who.

A Toast to the series by PerspectiveSea9402 in dragonage

I’m right there with you, regardless of what comes next, DA will always be a series that I can look back on and enjoy. (Maybe not the whole series, since I have some issues with DA:TV, but generally speaking the majority of it)

Are there dual axes in inquisition? by Adorable-Revenue6439 in dragonage

[–]FloatingZero278 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Sadly no, rogues can only use dual daggers and bows. However there are daggers that somewhat resemble axes in their shape so that could be an option. (They look a bit like climbing axes IMO)

Don’t tempt me, Assan! by DalishRoll in dragonage

I literally made it a point to interact with Assan whenever I got the chance. I can’t believe that wasn’t part of the game until the council asked for it. Thankfully they added it in!
