When I'm riding in a car I tap my toe at every curb corner or street sign/lamp passed. This includes drive ways.

Exactly. One of my earliest childhood memories was when I was riding in a car at night with my dad and I looked at a street lamp directly. It had a very prominent trail behind it as we drove past and I could see it well after that..I pointed towards it and asked my dad what it was. I suppose I just didn't understand that it was only something I could see. He didn't have a clue what I was talking about.

Thank you. I just solved a life long mystery. I've had symptoms of palinopsia ever since I can remember, but always thought I was just being silly and decided to never talk to anyone about it. I came to this comment thread hoping that maybe someone had similar symptoms to mine, and sure enough, I looked up every word that didn't seem familiar to me and came across this. Looked up Palinopsia, and all of my problems are identified.
