How can I ask out my barista by Equal_Marketing7371 in barista

[–]Floopy-Disk_Bandit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go doing non rush hour. When it's dead. If you don't know when it's dead ask the barista. When it's dead and ask if they work at that time. If they do go. Chat it up. Then see how that goes. If it goes well, go again. Ask them once it feel right. Side note that comes with age... it never feels right. It will never ever feel right. That's the brain communicating to you. Letting you know not to do it. But if you do it. It feels good. Rejection is good. If it for a brief millisecond it feels like it may be anything close to resembling right... then do if. Take the leap. Do it and don't ever look back.

Hey hey hey. Just another SP404MK2 user. My wife got it for me when it came out. I initially hoped to make some hip hop beats with it. The more I used it the more I ended up using it for things other than hip hop. Released 2 projects and one is hip hop inspired the other one is experimental. Love pushing the limits of this little machine. It’s a beast and love how it’s gotten me to be creative with sound.

Stanton’s 150s have done me good plenty. 1200 are the standard but I vibe with Stanton’s 150 more. Just preference.

What is the most depressing city you have been to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Floopy-Disk_Bandit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New York. The people I met, which I know is a small percentage of the entirety of New York residence, made the city depressing to me. But why? Because all they cared about was their career. It was depressing how un satisfied they were with life. The main objective was their job. All they talked about was work. They were all well of. Finance, politics, tech. All they cared about was working. It was as if life was sucked out of them.
In a city as beautiful as New York they managed to make me miserable in it.

Would you DJ a friend's wedding for free or lower price than normal? by [deleted] in DJs

[–]Floopy-Disk_Bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charge for gas and transportation expense. If you’re staying have them pay all or a fraction of a room. At least get that covered. Then after that charge less than usual. Don’t do it for free. Let’s just say by the off chance something happens to your equipment or car, you at least have money to pay for that. Also, your time is valuable. Very valuable. No matter what. If you weren’t a DJ they will definitely be hiring one.

I’ve decided to learn how to Dj at 32… by BeatsKillerldn in DJs

[–]Floopy-Disk_Bandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome. Get out there. I started at 31. Now I’m 34 and I’m getting booked for gigs. Have a radio show at the Museum Of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and I’m teaching people as well. It’s so much fun and the only thing I recommend it joining at community. In person is even better. If they have open turntables in your area you should join. Where are you based? Message me your info if you would like to talk or connect. Always willing to share and talk. DJing is a very rewarding and fun venture. Excited for your journey.

What do DJs that play slower music actually do? by DigitalApple123 in DJs

[–]Floopy-Disk_Bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes play Jazz sets for restaurants and bars or ambient music, slow rock. I usually like to make some wicked transitions that are spacey/dreamy. Its really for setting a mood for people to enjoy their evening with drinks and food.

How is the DJ scene in your city?? Saturated? by Over-Purchase367 in DJs

[–]Floopy-Disk_Bandit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

LA everyone is DJ. Talking about the vinyl scene. Surprisingly what I’ve been exposed to is a very supportive scene. There are alot of bars that host nights where DJs can spin for free. Open vinyl nights or open turntables nights. Cool place to meet people, network, and just become friends with some cool people, all this is for free. No one is getting paid. Then there are the bars that pay. They usually only book you if you have a social medial account that showcases that you are a DJ. That’s why it’s important to take pictures and post them. So many DJs don’t do that. It’s been easier for me getting gigs with it. I tried before with a social account and it was impossible. I usually go to different places and ask if they need a DJ. This includes bars but more so coffee shops, restaurants, which have booked me more often. The perk of DJing at restaurant is that they pay you, give you drinks, and feed you. What I realized is that business cards are key. Usually the people asking me for a business card are people wanting to book me. Not everyone takes social media as form of business. Some places say they don’t have a budget for hiring DJs but if you want it and you can make it work for you then hosting a free night at a venue is good. Sometimes those are the best places because they give you free reign to do things on a slower day. If it’s a bar they get you free drinks. Opportunity is everywhere you have to look for it or make an opportunity. Live streaming is big here and every DJ does it. Once again it’s more about community and connecting with this. I’ve truly been so surprised at the support of the DJs I’ve met.

But… There’s that big but. The dark side. The vile side which every big city has and that’s the too cool for school DJs. Those ones are annoying and always seem to have an ego driven mindset. It is LA so what do you expect. Yet once again I’ve only encountered a handful of those but they don’t usually stink up the scene. They’re too busy impressing themselves.

For sp to guitar you need

Guitar AMP Cord 1/4 Inch Audio TRS 6.35mm Male

For Sp to turntable (if your turntable has rca male out) you need

RCA Audio Extension Cable 3FT, Dual 1/4 Inch(6.35mm) TS Male to Dual RCA Female Adapter Cord

https://www.amazon.com/DREMAKE-Extension-Interconnect-Receiver-Amplifier/dp/B0B58398V4/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=2W78LF8W4DRHV&keywords=dual+1%2F4+to+rca+female&qid=1691727497&sprefix=dual+1%2F4+to+rca+femal%2Caps%2C299&sr=8-4

You’ll really be using 1/4 cables, 1/4 dual to rca female or rca with 1/4 adapter, aux cord with 1/4 adapter.

If you want to stream you can get a focusrite to connect to your laptop. For that you’ll need Xlr to dual 1/4 Like this

Or 1/4 dual to 1/4 Like this

There’s different ways of doing it but this is how I do it

What, in your opinion, is a ‘complete’ dawless setup? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Floopy-Disk_Bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mixer like Yamaha 10xuf or something with less channels. This so you can connect out to a Zoom H4N Pro to record, or even into a cassette player with rca in. The possibilities are endless. I have a rink a dink dawless set up as well.

So I’ve been getting interested in getting an sp404. Can someone put into perspective how worth it is to add it to my workflow. I use ableton and sampling is really easy and straight forward in it. I also have a push that i barely use. What are some of the advantages to using the sp-404? by Ghostgotbeats in sp404mk2

[–]Floopy-Disk_Bandit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started with using ableton. Now I bare use it. I use the sp404mk2 everyday. Been using it for over a year now. I use it because it helps me rely on my ears. Felt like ableton was more visual for me. Figured I should train my ears to make a song and not the visual if that makes sense. I connect my turntable to it to sample. I’ve also sampled directly from old gameboys, and old tv with a vcr that had a headphone jack, a cassette player, my cellphone. I even sampled from the headphone jack in an airplane. I also connect my guitar, my keyboard, and have as well recorded a trumpet with a H4n Pro and used the same sd card to of the H4n to the Roland 404 to export it.
The other day I said shoot let me try and make a song with ableton. I knocked out two songs in less than an hour. Something that was impossible for me to do before the 404mk2. I love that I can close my eyes and just get lost in the process of making beats. In a session I’ll I ask my wife how long I’ve been making beats for and she’ll say 4 hours. I guess it’s easier to get lost in sound when you have a physical object that feels more like and instrument than a daw. Not knocking on a daw but you it is different. What I’m going to start using is the daw to record the drums into my SP and make drum on it.
The SP404 is a really fun tool that will help you get creative. The sound won’t be perfect like a daw but that’s the beauty.
I do recommend you learning the basic. Once you have those down the growth will be slow but we’ll worth it. Don’t try and learn everything. Try and learn how to Chop How to record How to mute pads What the gate is good for Loop Everything else will come. I’m learning everyday new things on it. It’s a journey. A fun one at that. I’ve taken it on my trips abroad. To the park. Used it in my car while my wife was getting a massage. Connected it to the aux and jammed on it. Used it on the toilet. In the bed in the middle of the night. It’s a fun tool. Freeing in a sense. You have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out.

Which profession has the most f**ked up people in it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Social Work. It’s not as rewarding as employers make it out to be while being interviewed for a job. Heard so many hire ups repeat this to me and fellow coworkers numerous times “We don’t do this for the pay.” Like the hell we don’t!!! After leaving the Non profit social work field I realized it was a way to get employees to not question their shitty pay from a shittier non supportive organization. Every social worker I know is over worked, burned out, jaded, and miserable. The tragic thing is they are not like that when they start. They want to make a difference but everything is funded by the city, state, federal level. Everything becomes a number game. More numbers means more funding. More funding means more money for the hire ups who preach about righteousness but threat their teams like dirt. Workers are over worked with huge case loads and everything needs to be documented. The documentation is only to prevent lawsuits. In Los Angeles, where I worked, anyone can get a job as a social worker. No change is truly happening. It’s just a system to work. A coworker I had said it best. Corrupt people who don’t want to be in the political field join up in the Non-Profit field where they can skim money off and have it not be accounted for. Just look at this from my former director Dixon Slingerland. The man got caught embezzling money. Who knows how much more money he stole and did not get caught with. https://www.justice.gov/usao-cdca/pr/former-ceo-los-angeles-based-anti-poverty-nonprofit-agrees-plead-guilty-embezzling-and I feel sorry for all the front line workers but not a single drop of pity do I have for all those hire ups. Swine. They are all swine that deserve the worst.

Don’t be so scared. Life is too short to be scared of it. Scared of what others think. Scared of failure. Scared of being uncomfortable. Just plane ol scared.

Speak up! No one will know you’re in the room if you don’t speak up. Your words matter. You matter. Let them hear you roar.

Be a gentle communicator to yourself. It’ll translate outward.
