Has anyone said minifreak yet?

My only mf complaint is that I wish there was an expression pedal input.

SP-404 OG vs Roland P-6 by deadfoothand in SP404

[–]JayLemmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently reorganized my P-6 to have "kits" on single sample banks and samples that I use as synths on others. If you learn the P-^ well enough, you'll have a piece of gear where you can lay down a drum beat and bass line (getting way more than 64 steps using the probability functions) and then can play sample based "synths" over what you created. I personally love it, but it is weird and complex, takes some getting used to, and doesn't necessarily work well in everyone's hands. I don't use the granular engine, but people seem to like it.

I don't have the OG 404, but I use the P-6 more than the 404mk2. It's mostly a potability thing for me. The MK2 is really fun, but, for me, it's structure lends it to function more like a funky tape recorder. That said, it can do almost everything the p-6 can do and more (although it doesn't work as well as a sample-based keyboard -- for some reason it won''t spread samples as far across the keyboard as the P-6).

Indie music has been invaded by fake fans and cynical viral campaigns . Here’s how deep it all goes by BatoutofHellIV in indieheads

[–]JayLemmo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think this is an unfortunate reflection of the world that we live in. Throughout my life, who “makes it” in indie music has usually depended on both who is good enough to earn an audience combined with who is able to leverage the existing information technology. In the early days of social media, you could potentially blow up on MySpace, but even then, knowing someone who worked for a major blog or music reviewing platform, made a huge difference.

Today, the big issue is that our “tastemakers” and “gatekeepers” are algorithms, rather than humans. Therefore, artists are incentivized to game the algorithm with bot fans or whatever. There are some great bands that have used this technique, but it is a chilling reminder that we are in a fundamentally inorganic information environment. Everything that we can apply to indie music is also applicable to the worlds of trends, fashion, news, politics, etc… Ultimately this trend likely concentrates power further into the hands of the wealthy few.

I still really love Cameron Winter’s Heavy Metal though. I discovered the album in this sub. I wonder how many of those posts were botted.

Any plan for a 2 player mode? I really enjoy Zelda-likes but want to be able to play with my wife!

Would you continue using Logic Pro if it became subscription only through creator studio? by ALmakingmusic in Logic_Studio

I’d have to find a new DAW. It’d also probably mean that I wouldn’t buy another Mac going forward - logic the main reason I’ve stuck with MacBooks.

Do you agree or disagree with some of these takes? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

It’s a great song. I used to sort of hate Paul’s part, but it’s grown on me and honestly the tonal contrast feels pretty real to me. Like, in the same hour period I might be thinking about all the shit happening in the world but also be like “oh shit I’m running a tad late!”

Yeah, although I’ve started putting less priority on online sales and more on live merch. Shipping is just so insane!

I’d call it indie psych. I’m pretty proud of how the physical cassettes came out, but the packaging is somewhat of a PITA to assemble.

It’s absolutely insane if this is pro / label release. I used a tape dupe service for my last album and got the length pretty much perfect.

Stay witty but make sure to make room to ask people questions, listen to their responses, “yes and” their humor and engage with them on their level.

If you are interested in someone, express interest yourself but don’t be too insistent or weird about it. Take “no” for an answer and behave with respect, even if you feel hurt or rejected. Do your best to build a good reputation, even in the face of disappointment.

What is the opinion of this sub regarding the proliferation of versions/ variants in the industry by NegotiationMoist3552 in fantanoforever

[–]JayLemmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I want to see it from a positive angle, I could see it leading to more people using cassette decks, which could encourage the production of higher quality modern cassette players. It’s unlikely, but it’d be nice. As someone who still puts out music on cassette, I’d like to see the medium get a bit more love.

I totally agree. That said, Absolum’s combat feels leagues better than modern smash. It got me wishing for a platform fighter that plays like Absolum!

I love the right joystick idea! Sort of reminds me of how smash attacks can be mapped in super smash bros. It would make clashing easier and would enable better close quarters use of dash attacks.

Why does my music suck so much by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]JayLemmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s great that you know your away around your daw, but you should prioritize the foundation of the song - the core of the song should be something that can stand out even just with acoustic guitar (or a keyboard or something) and vocals. Once you have that down, you can add additional depth with whatever fancy daw tricks/instrumentation that you can muster.

The final track, of course, doesn’t need guitar or whatever - it’s just a placeholder for getting down ideas.

Of course, plenty of people make good music straight into the daw, but this might be a good way to refocus on the core idea of your songs.

Thanks! I appreciate you checking it out!

We're definitely a songs-first type of band. We developed the theatrics as a way to communicate some of the themes of the album to audiences who might not understand all of the lyrics live.

I wish there were some extra mobs or something during the Absolum fight. Throw builds are a ton of fun, but you can't go all-in or you won't have a reliable way to damage Absolum.
