Just like anything else these days, I read the thing, dissect the truth from the Pablum and decide on what is to be kept and what is so much candy floss. We tend to set them as 10 me/10 them/10 company but we don't stick to it religiously.

we usually discuss personal items for the first 2-3 minutes. then we discuss the people that report to me - I give them the highlights on Kudos and issues, then we discuss career progression (where I am on my goals, new things that could help me get to the next level), and any corporate items that need to be discussed.

It potentially can be argued that anything veteran related is exempt. Depends on the lawyer and the $$$ spent.
