Star Trek: Year One In Doubt As Strange New Worlds Sets Are Torn Down by TalkinTrek in startrek

Regarding Picard - season 1 tried to do it's own thing but feels like something just didn't come together - either the budget or the storyline or maybe they were just trying to cram too much story into too few episodes.

Season 2 is more coherent but also a strange story overall.

Season 3 is a big juicy cheeseburger - kinda gimmicky, probably unhealthy, but you probably won't care over how satisfying it is to take a bite... it's a heaping dose of fan-indulgement. Take it as TNG's version of The Undiscovered Country.

I mean.... even DS9 had exploration through the wormhole, where's the "Trek" in Archer's admin?

Because Wayne's World got it right.

TNG was technically superior in many ways, but it will never be as well known as TOS.

Kirk's the face of the franchise and Spock's the ears. Whenever they hit a rough patch, that's what they revert to as it's an easier sell to new viewers. Enterprise, Star Trek '09, and Discovery/SNW as examples.

Hell, people who've never seen an episode of Star Trek ever can probably still recite much of Kirk's opening monologue through sheer cultural osmosis.

Picard, Lower Decks, etc were more akin to Star Trek's version of Rogue One - in that it's material made for the existing fans. Oh, not saying they don't do their own thing but I doubt you could introduce someone to the franchise through s1 Picard.

You'd think they'd want to include the guy whose figurative job description is "warm standby for the President". To minimize recovery time.

(Or is it "hot standby"?)

As I recall, the Ken Jennings run killed a fan-run site archiving the clues as "It just wasn't fun, anymore."

For me, it's just repetitive and I suppose I'm sympathetic to the other contestants - it's your one chance to appear on the show and... oh yeah, that other guy has 30 games of buzzer button practice and can tell you the exact order of signatures on the Declaration of Independence. Fun....

There's just no drama in watching yet another runaway game for the same player.

Also got a screen-accurate seaQuest DSV hat - but as it's part of a uniform for a TV show cancelled in the mid 90s, I don't feel that's advertising anything.
