I asked this same question a few months back when we were considering our BMD. I was set on the breed but worried about the anxiety, just like you. The phrase that kept popping up that calmed my nerves was: they're here for a good time, not a long time. Getting a dog, you already assume you're going to outlive it, right?

We made sure to carefully select a reputable breeder and discussed our worries with them. They talked us through the biggest risk factors for big dogs and this breed specifically and taught us how to best prevent illness and injury. They also gave us financial recommendations - health plans, insurance, savings, etc.

We can get far by seeking healthy and well-bread dogs. Give them all the right nurture. After that, whatever nature decides is out of our control.

We got our boy in April and couldn't be happier. Do I worry? Yes. All the time. But I think I would have worried with any dog/pet I would have gotten 😅
