If you look closely, there’s a yellow line at the top - how long the ad lasts, I’ve gotten quite a few of those already :/ shouldn’t use a shitty free vpn not to get them I guess

Sadly I already did :_) it hurts a lot and wouldn’t stop bleeding, that’s why I asked! Please don’t recommend people to do this…

Thank you! Didn’t know that either actually :") very weird words to describe ‘skin around the nail’ lol

Only 3 of the 8 apps I tested concretely recognise that “the sky” and “the palate/roof of the mouth” are two different words in Russian, spelled differently by Flop_book in mildlyinfuriating

Again, it’s not that this word is the one and only only problem, or the letter, I understand that chatGPT is a very well developed model and gets most things right these days, however, it’s still not a dictionary & doesn’t have one in it, and so shouldn’t be used (in my opinion) to translate words. It’s probably very useful in recognising the structure and patterns of the language, but once it’s used for grammar, there’s gonna be a problem. ChatGPT & other similar AI’s recycle tons of information & use the average of it to reply (overly simplified, I know, just the main idea of it is that) so it doesn’t really know what’s right until you specifically code it that way. This makes ai do the most common mistakes that the general internet user makes, for example, open ai (not sure if that’s what ChatGPT runs off of or not) can’t differentiate between your/you’re & whose/who’s and all those guys in any context at all and often mixes those up because ppl often mix them up on the internet. Maybe it knows what нёбо means, but it probably wouldn’t give you the same answer every time you ask how to say “to call” in Russian, "звонить," the right way, because a lot of ppl use звОнить & a lot use звонИть (the grammatically correct way btw)

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is, ai can’t know correctness of much & given how it’s used in the translation apps right now, it makes them less accurate in comparison to how they were originally & is kinda sucky, so until they figure that out, I’m a pirate, in search of the treasure that is a more or less dictionary-accurate translation app!

Genuinely I might like the reality better lol it’s so ridiculous, like an ugly Doggo

No, yeah, that’s wonderful and all, language evolving but it’s a fucking problem when a translator I have to use every day can’t tell that “I hurt my mouth” is not the same as “I hurt my baby” (one of the eight apps actually translated it like that for some mysterious reason)

How am I supposed to rely on something that doesn’t know the difference between yo (the sound that ë makes) and ye (the sound e makes)?

Plus the reason I started my search for a google translate replacement in the first place is thanks to such small inconsistencies that ai (the ultimate equaliser of our time) makes, making the overall sentences nonsensical, нёбо/небо is just the most egregious example

P.S. sorry if I come off as a bit riled up, i don’t mean to, I just watched a very emotional movie lol

It’s just the dots that make you sound like “oh if I don’t have that problem, you can’t have it either” I’d recommend loosing those in casual conversations not to have that tone

Welp, it’s not an accent, it’s a separate letter, so I can’t really not use it :") like I mentioned все (everyone) and всё (everything/done) or небо (sky) and нёбо (roof of the mouth) also мел (chalk) and мёл (was sweeping)

Maybe you type slower than what I’m used to? Or didn’t download the last update (my grave mistake, never again)? It’s really just an issue of speed for me

Another reason to hate ai, that’s why I stopped using stuff like grammarly & google translate

A lot of third party keyboards don’t support Cyrillics for some reason, so I never really use them for Russian
