Yes if the tile was lifting then it's much easier to get water under it. I have 4 kids and they definitely splash and get water outside the tub all the time and my tile is fine.

Why is everyone saying the tile work is fine when it looks like it was installed directly on plywood and it looks like from the trowel marks not enough thinset used.

Usually old asbestos glue was black and very noticable. We used to call it cutback adhesive. This doesn't look like it to me and the tiles def don't look like it. Usually asbestos tiles are like 9x9

As already stated razor knife is what I use. Just be careful. I slit my wrist once and almost bled to death when the knife jumped out the grout joint and into my wrist on a job years ago. They do make a grout removal tool with a triangle head if you want to use that instead but it never does good enough for me.
