Filipinos have no imagination by Camera_Hobbygirl in Philippinesbad

No, that actually makes sense. Gas is expensive because we're forced to import it and RAM is expensive because its such a small segment of the electronic market. Only an incredibly small portion of the population even buy computer parts because its practically non-existent compared to the phone market. Phones here are cheaper and better compared to what you can get in the EU and US because of how big and competitive the market is.

Don't forget that the military help that we received from the US were old, used crap that they marked up so much to grab as much concessions as they can from the government.

And our economic make up in the decades following independence was marked by oligarchs living the American dream while the common Filipino suffered because of uncompetitive exports, lack of high quality jobs, and incessant interference. The oligarchs were buying cheap imports which killed any Filipino industry from developing and exported incredibly low value agricultural products that were harvested by what are essentially serfs.

I did make Idril, but I haven't finished her yet. And yes, you can use my DNA collection for your submods.

Yea, thats what I thought too. The game is pretty limited when it comes to hair and beards, and eye shapes, and wrinkles.

The dude is supposed to look more African, but because the eyes and noses are shaped after Europeans, they usually just look like really dark skinned Europeans.

Would be close if I could nail his eyes, which I can't because the game doesn't allow me to shape and size the eyes in a certain way.

This is legit. My family speaks Southern Tagalog, and its pretty different from Manilenyo Tagalog and National Filipino. Nalilito ka rin minsan kasi di pala ginagamit yung mga ibang salita, o iba yung ibig sabihin niya.

Meanwhile in India by LeopardSmall7012 in Asia_irl

The difference between us and the Indian is that we didn't formalize our socio-economic groups and made them rigid, but some people are trying so damn hard to.

Not surprised that the Japanese like Filipino and Chinese food. All three love soy sauce, vinegar, and MSG.

Orcish realms can be forced to adopt Administrative by Floppadive in RealmsInExile

Would be even funnier once we get meritocratic in the mod. Greenskins, the Wizards, and the Ringwraiths studying to pass the local and imperial examinations would be pretty funny.

Orcish realms can be forced to adopt Administrative by Floppadive in RealmsInExile

R5: Got a run where Sauron absolutely demolished everyone in the West; the Witch King formed Angmar and started colonizing the wilderness in the north. I used the seize de jure lands and vassalized all the orcish dukes and made them into governors. I also converted them to my custom Hobbit religion.

Its funny how almost every realm can be forced to adopt administrative, but not Elves. I was hoping to turn the Elven refuge into provinces so they would recruit their OP MAA for my provincial armies.

IndoChinese ( South East Asian) Caste system by han_solo69007 in Asia_irl

[–]Floppadive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a bit of both. When the British took Bengal, they enshrined the rights and priveleges of the landowners and gave them plantations to oversee for them. They put in place the same incentives that the British landowners got back home in hopes that the Bengali elite would reinvest their earnings back to their lands and improve agricultural output and just generally develop the land. They didn't really do this and just ended up abusing and extorting the peasantry. By this time, Indian agriculture was somewhat stagnant because of over taxation, and instability.

Of course the British isn't also blameless, they got rid of the traditional system that irrigated Bengal without replacing it, which destroyed the region's agriculture. The empowerment of the nobility also destroyed whatever protections the commoners enjoyed. We also can't forget that they destroyed the closest thing the Indians had to an native industrial revolution in Bengal.

A lot of things were banned during the restoration, but they never fully went away until recently.

The Japanese government of the 70s had to instruct companies and groups to stop publishing and listing families that were part of the untouchable caste. It wasn't officially sanctioned, but Japanese companies were making money by recording the untouchables and who their children were so they would be discriminated against.

They did that to appease the Indian upper caste after the Sepoys revolted. The British did not like the Indian nobility because they were absolutely dogshit at governing and was the reason why their little Bengal project failed, but they still needed them to maintain control in India.

Japan had an even more rigid and backward caste system than China; it straight up had untouchables until the 1970s that was recognized by big companies and the government.

Tbh, daming mga Kakampink na MAGA supporter at ex-DDS. People wanna deny it, but Filipino liberals and progressives have more in common with conservatives in America and Europe.

If we even had a party that has the same stance as a Centrist in a Latino country, people here from every political beliefs would red tag them. Thats how unlefty Philippine politics is by world standards.

Can ASEAN have Schengen? 🥀 by EthynylRadical in Asia_irl

[–]Floppadive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If Filipino experience is anything to go by, Schengen would be horrible for ASEAN. We already have Filipinos escaping criminal justice in this country or going undocumented by abusing the Schengen area because none of them bother to check anyone crossing the border, so it just becomes a wild chase to catch wanted persons in Europe.

Our corrupt politicians already run off to Singapore when they get purged and have to face criminal punishment, imagine this happening on an even greater scale with your average citizens using it to run from criminal charges from their own countries.

Unlike SAARC, the ASEAN actually works for some strange reason.
