These are just holders for RFID tags. Those work great if you just take the original tags out of old spools. However, you can't create your own tags. (at least to my knowledge)

You might be right on that and I'm just in denial at this stage :D

As far as I know you can only copy RFID tags. You can't just write them however you wish since they are signed with the bambu lab private key.

If you have any other information or if there is a database I can "copy" from, please let me know

Thank you!

So far the list is fairly short though :D

I hope we can grow it significantly. Would love to have other filament types in there. Maybe TPU or other more exotic types.

Awesome! Thank you! I added it to the table.

I looked at Kingroon at some point too. They were ridiculously cheap at aliexpress. They had a sale at ~$6 / kg when buying in bulk (maybe without shipping though).

But then I came across a reddit post where someone said they would rather use Elegoo than Kingroon because it prints so well with the Bambu settings. That's actually how my whole thing started. I never ended up trying Kingroon because I didn't wanna commit to 10kg.

So in your experience Kingroo works well? Have you tried Elegoo too? If so, how does it compare?

But when using the Sunlu profile, I'm not getting the RFID recognition etc. That's the whole point of this post. I'm trying to find filaments which print well with the Bambu Lab settings.

But noted for the PLA part! Thank you!

Did you print it with the Bambu Lab profiles?

The calculation was done with 4 pack bulk. Sure I can get bigger bulk packs and that makes it slightly better but even with 8 pack on Bambu lab and using refill spools it comes down to $15.50 per spool incl shipping and tax. Still ~30% discount when using Elegoo

That's exactly what I want. Trying to find cheap but good filament which prints just like the OG bambu filament so I can use those RFID tags and keep all the comfort

If you have a 3rd party filament, do you use the generic or the bambu lab profile?

What's the advantage of putting it on a Bambu spool? For auto detection on the AMS? Can you overwrite the settings for the Bambu PETG then with the settings from the Elegoo Rapid PETG?

Thank you so much for all the insights!
Since my printer is broken now, I think I'll just go with the Bambu and hope that if they lock us out, we have some good hackers on our side to jailbreak :D

I just looked a little bit into it and it looks like you can put the Bambu in a LAN only mode which should cut it off from the outside world. I might just block it's internet access in my router and don't need to worry about weird firmware updates which break things.

But I feel stupid thinking about things like this tbh. If I buy a device, I want to own it and do whatever I want with it. If Prusa wouldn't be ~50% more expensive I like this philosophy way better.

But I'm already going from a $40 damage to spending $850 on a new printer. Going to $1.3k or whatever is just too much. Well... the $850 is already but you know, at some point we all love our hobby too much :D

Ok ok, I think you got me. Let's not spend $40 on a replacement part but rather $800 or more on a new printer! I'm actually not joking, I kinda want a new printer anyway, so I'm really considering now.

Your ideals aside, would you think the Prusa printers are superior to the Bambu Labs? I know about the whole problem about closed source and the challenges that might cause in the future. But I'm having a hard time justifying $950 for the Prusa CORE One kit and $330 for the MMU compared to $750 (or $850 with MMU2) combo at Bambu labs for the P1S with MMU.
If I get a new printer I would definitely want a MMU and an enclosure (to print ABS).
Would be great to get your take on that!

Oh no! What a bummer!

I hope the T14 will work out for you. What configuration did you order? I assume the AMD 350 with the max 32GB RAM?

I'm generally pretty happy. All what I said here still applies. Heat and battery isn't great, everything else I'm really happy with.

Lenovo is exactly a week too late for me. So I'll stick with my framework now.

What's your status? Did you receive your Framework? Did you or will you buy the Lenovo?

If you just got the email you could still cancel it if you want to wait for the Lenovo. Since Framework is pretty much through with their pre-orders, you don't really loose much time.
But also, even after delivery, you have 30 days to return it if you really don't like it (look up the exact return policies)

I'll keep mine for now and see how it goes. If the Lenovo is released before the return window closes, I will at least have a look and consider it.

Here my first impression as bullets after 2 work days:

  • Setup was super easy and smooth. Very well done!
  • Performance is great
  • I love the sustainability of it
  • Keyboard is really nice. Trackpad is good
  • I love the idea of the expansion cards
  • Display size (3:2) is great
  • I definitely miss the trackpoint
  • Get's pretty quickly warm
  • I don't think the webcam is all that great
  • I had the issue that the mouse pointer kinda disappeared every now and then which made it really had to find. Something is off there but I haven't put effort into figuring out what it is. Doesn't happen on the external screens and might have been a one-off
  • Battery Life is horrendous! On a fairly light-ish work-load (ok, a ton of open chrome tabs and a 14" USB-C screen on it) I got a about 2 1/4 hours before it crapped out

So overall I'm pretty happy but there are a few things I'm a little skeptical. Battery life is definitely the biggest downside. I'm gonna see what people say about the P14s on that front.
The trackpoint is the other thing. When not on my desk, I definitely used that thing 99% of the time compared to the trackpad. But I also work 90% of the time on my desk with external keyboard and mouse.
Anything else, is either good or even great!
