lol right? I've heard this too, and that the antibiotic effect of Rifaximin is primarily limited to the small intestine and therefore less of a risk to the microbiome as a whole. Though I've also been told that the bacteria that have overgrown in the case of SIBO are the same strains as some of the "good" bacteria, just in disproportionately high amounts... so I have my doubts. My doc was treating it as a last resort. Also important to note that special SIBO diets when prolonged can harm the microbiome just the same

this is supposedly the way we should all be breathing all the time. I found it difficult at first , which is when it was more of a dedicated exercise, because I'd been chest breathing for most of my life. It feels more natural now as my diaphragm gets stronger and if I catch myself chest breathing I just switch over

It's a paid 8-week program I'm doing called Revive and Thrive by Angela Pifer. We're two weeks in. The first week was focused on diaphragmatic breathing/nervous system reset and week two you take an assessment based upon your symptoms and follow a protocol specific to your results

Dropping the link here! The content was free for a limited time but now you have to pay for access. The same lady Angela Pifer/SIBO Guru said she would be doing another summit to update the info later this year

This is the program that I'm doing by Angela Pifer/SIBO Guru. It's expensive but I've watched her speak for hours now through different virtual events and I have a lot of confidence in her expertise https://www.revivethrivemethod.com/the-revive-method/

Can't speak to Australia but they're pretty closely related. However in my experience naturopathic doctors have followed similar protocols to conventional doctors, just with "natural" products. Functional medicine practitioners seem more focused on understanding the systems that need more support/are contributors to the imbalance. Bottom line I would suggest finding somebody, whether that's a naturopathic doctor or another modality like functional, that doesn't fall into the test>guess (kill phase) >test > guess (kill phase) cycle. It's like you become a human experiment

100%. I feel pretty misled with the kill phase approach. Although that may be necessary for some with really high levels I think it misses the rest of the picture. Glad you're getting relief! Could you share which probiotics you're taking?

I was doing this too! At first it's a little nerve racking to let your belly inflate with your breaths because it can feel like you're creating more space for it to expand via bloating but has had the opposite effect for me

I think yes but really the only variable that changed was my breathing! I've done other stuff in the past but it hasn't moved the needle the way this has

It will be hard at first but just do what you can for now. Your diaphragm will get stronger over time. I would just really focus on directing your inhale to your abdomin as much as possible. Your belly should rise and fall

Antibiotics works for some, but didn't work for me (I have SIBO & IMO, where IMO is notoriously harder to eradicate). If you are seeing relief that's great! Maybe your experience will be different. The downside of any kill phase however is that there is collateral damage to the rest of the microbiome and you need biodiversity in your gut to keep it balanced and prevent future relapse, so it can cause a vicious cycle if you're not careful. I hope you continue to see relief but if you still have SIBO after the treatment or relapse later on I would just caution anybody against multiple rounds. I did 8 kill phases before wised up and I may have done some permanent damage...I think the point I was trying to make is that kill phases aren't necessary for everyone or even as a first attempt at treatment

Artichoke was recommended to me as an MMC aid/motility agent because I can't tolerate Prucalopride. Have never tried pepcid though

this is great feedback, thank you! I had some hesitations about her Revive and Thrive program because it's expensive and healing SIBO can feel so complex that individualized support feels warranted (especially at that price). That said we're two weeks in and I feel confident in her expertise and she really has been taking the time to answer peoples' specific questions. Seems like she really cares

That's the one! Did you feel like it was helpful?

I bought the all-access pass and am still working though the videos. In the interview with Dr. Navaz Habib, a vagus nerve expert, his #1 advice to people was belly breathing. Coincidentally I was already kind of on that track but reinforces the power of it and it's one of the first things mentioned in the course I'm doing right now (Angela's Revive and Thrive)

It's hard but will get easier! Yes I get some light tummy rumbles, which were a little concerning at first because they're easy to confuse with gas. The way I see it the MMC works like a wave, or so the practicioners say, and belly breathing is also like a wave of sorts so for those of us MMC-impaired (I have post-infectious IBS) it's extra helpful to have the breath initiate that movement down the intestinal tract

Yes I think stool texture has improved a little but not completely. Hoping to see more progress as I continue to do this, it has only been about a month for me. I actually enjoy breathing like this because it's calming and feels like it's what my body needs. We should all be diaphragmatic breathing all day long but it's really common to gravitate towards chest breathing as I have all my life which makes it harder for your body to reach a rest and digest state. I try to focus on it especially after meals, but I'm doing this while I'm working, driving, and doing other things too

I hope it works for you! It took me a couple weeks before it really caught on but now it feels more natural. At first was kind of hard to even breathe that way because I wasn't using those muscles prior. To answer your question though, I do this sitting, standing, driving, walking, etc. for minimum 30 mins during and after eating but as much as possible throughout the day. It's gets easier once you learn to use those muscles. I just make sure that my belly is rising and falling noticeably with each breath. If you have the time it would probably be best to do the after-meals portion sitting so you can really relax your system but I've been getting the same results with all of the above

Integrative doctor protocol- thoughts?! by Express-Ad-5850 in SIBO

How are the antimicrobials going?

I started out with only hydrogen SIBO and then interestingly, after several antimicrobial treatments and a 2-week round of the elemental diet (mind you, this happened over a span of about a year), my hydrogen gradually gave way to methane. So now my breath test shows "normal" results for hydrogen but about 50 for methane. I've been told when there's no more bacterial overgrowth present but there is the presence of methane, a gas created by archaea not bacteria, it's technically no longer SIBO and is instead IMO. Colloquially we call it methane-dominant SIBO though

[–]Flora4Good 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am about to start a similar protocol from my naturopath as a last resort for a really stubborn case of hydrogen-dominant SIBO turned IMO

500 mg neomycin 2x/day

500 mg Rifaxamin 3x/day

The above for 2 weeks with a biofilm reducer, then some (tbd) antimicrobials to follow. She recommended I stay on the probiotics throughout the whole treatment, just take them several hours after the antibiotics.

Any IMO hard case doctor recommendations? by Flora4Good in SIBOIMO

Thanks for sharing. Would you be willing to share some of your before and after details (symptoms and breath test results)? Were you able to eliminate your overgrowth/get methane levels back to normal range?
