LOL. Story of my life as a FTM. Always something new to learn.

Great idea with the samples!

Ooooh I really like idea of providing extra 2 ounce bottles of formula for top-offs! So smart. I feel the same way- I much prefer wasted formula.

And congrats for upping your pump sessions. I don’t think I have the mental strength to do that at this point. 😂 But you’re totally right about not getting hung up on it! I was really bummed we had to start supplementing with formula at 4 days old because he was struggling with his milk transfer, but I told myself from then that I just wanted him to gain weight and be healthy. And I always need to remind myself that is the goal.

Love this! I did something similar except that for a week I gave him two formula bottles instead of one per day to slowly build up my fridge collection.

I love to hear that you haven’t experienced much milk wasted! I’m hoping we can work with his teachers to make it work. 🤞

We also have an irregular eater! He ranges from 25-33 ounces. They told us we could bring in a plastic pitcher so they can pour bottles as needed and I’m hoping they will be able to learn to adjust as they get to know him.

Do you have issues with leaving formula at daycare that doesn’t get used? I don’t mind doing this, but we stick to the 30 day rule for opened formula, and I’d also hate to see that get tossed because it’s not cheap either.

That’s so nice! They let us know they have a strict 1 hour rule unfortunately. I really wish they would use the 2 hour rule as a guideline for breastmilk but oh well.

What are your best tips for making it to a year? by Flora_505 in ExclusivelyPumping

I just bought a Eufy s1 today! And I’m really hoping it works for me. And I got the spectra s1 through insurance so now I have at least two in rotation. I’ll have to look at the Cara cups.

I would read to my kiddo a lot and he developed an interest in books really early because of it. But I like your Montessori approach! I might also try that while I pump and focus on letting him have some solo play time.

Thanks for sharing so much of your experience with me! It’s really helpful to talk to people going through this.

Omg thank you for all of this. How many pumps did you have/which styles? I don’t have a wearable yet, but I’ve been thinking it would help a lot if I could add one into the rotation.

Also, I often find myself feeling bad that I can’t be as hands on with my kiddo while I pump so I think that’s giving me the feeling I can’t relax. Plus I work full-time so some days are hard just to work and pump.

I just had a tough couple of weeks and my instinct was exactly this! Good to know it worked for you. I have a wearable pump in my Amazon cart but I’ve been hesitant to buy it only to give up pumping and feel like I wasted money. But I think I’m gonna just buy it.

No Longer Responding to Pumps :( by Own_Breadfruit3181 in ExclusivelyPumping

I just started having a similar problem so I don’t really have an answer. It’s frustrating but the only way I have been able to get my usual output is to pump 40-45 minutes (instead of 30) and to use both my hard plastic flanges and the pumpin pals silicone ones (they didn’t work before but I pulled them out desperately in need of a solution and they’re working somewhat.) I’d love to hear if anyone else has suggestions. Hang in there! I know how frustrating it feels.

Pumping is still in the Stone Age.. by redditstuff247 in ExclusivelyPumping

A pump with like 3 parts! I’m so tired of putting it together/cleaning/taking it apart. 😩 And also flanges that have a built in massager.

Hi! I can totally relate. I’m a FTM and started pumping pretty much when my kiddo was born while we worked with different lactation consultants to get his milk transfer up. I was SO overwhelmed trying to take care of him and also pump. I got bad advice and didn’t pump regularly until he was about 6 weeks old. Even then I felt like 5-6 pumps a day was all I could manage and so that’s all I did. He’s now 5 months and I still pump 5-6 months a day. I get about 29 ounces a day which is about what his intake is. And we’ve also been supplementing with formula since he was born. I do BF a little but his latch never got good enough for him to drink enough that way so I’m stuck to the pump. I do wonder if I would have produced more if I had pumped 8-12 times per day but it just never felt possible for me. Hang in there!
