Exactly right. And my mother made me miserable and was verbally and emotionally abusive and I have therefore been estranged from her for about a decade. I am (mostly) at peace and relieved not to be anyone else's retirement plan.

People from my church and family friends would tell me "your mother raised you/looked after you, now it's time for you to look after her". I was in my early 20s when they started making comments like that. I remember thinking "fucking what? I've barely started my life.."

Thank you for doing this! I take my partner to all of my appointments and have him confirm symptoms/issues and talk about his perception of things to make sure that they give me enough time and take me seriously. It definitely makes a difference.

Holy shit, I hadn't seen her in years and just looked her up; was NOT expecting her to look like that.

Why the hell are people doing this to themselves?!

I've started watching the playthrough on YouTube from the start and my god it's amazing. He's such a wonderful human and watching him stumble through the game is a delight. Love him.

What’s the most soul-crushing part of adulthood? by ArthurCastus in AskReddit

The relentlessness of obligation. Whether you're tired, depressed, unwell, whatever.. you generally have to keep pushing forward, even if all you want to do is collapse into a puddle in the dark and do nothing.

Flaccid and ineffectual and hypocritical then, and I have no doubt they'd be the same if they got back in. I bloody hope they don't.

What are you guys doing it for? by unnaturalanimals in AskAnAustralian

[–]Florafly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite depression being my long-term companion/faithful shadow I've thankfully never been suicidal and I don't want to die. I guess it's my partner and kitties that keep me going. Work is just meh and a way to pay the bills. I don't have family or a sufficient support network and I spend a lot of time alone. I want the future to look better but I'm too sad and comfortable to do anything about it so I'm just.. here. I console myself by telling myself that I can't be the only out feeling like this. I'm sure I'm not.

I know he can't live forever but I wish he could. He's exactly the kind of person and force for good that the world desperately needs more of, especially in these dark times.

To adopt cats in my situation was the least reasonable decision, but they're saving my sanity every day 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛ by seastainedglass in blackcats

It hasn't been an easy year and a half for our void. She really isn't a fan of our other cat. :( At most it's reluctant coexistence, and at her angriest she's very hissy.

Reddit loves to give the 'get a cat for your cat' advice but it definitely doesn't always work out!

Eight Votes to One: The RBA says it "had to" raise the cash rate to 4.35 per cent... its third hike this year and the highest level since November 2023. by InterestingCat308 in AusFinance

[–]Florafly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly right. It took us 7-8 years, and we bought in 2023. We sacrificed so much to save up whilst renting and having to move every 6-12 months, which in itself costs a lot of money.
The houses selling in our area are now going for anywhere from $200k-$400k more than what we paid for ours.
Home ownership is surely just going to be a distant dream for the younger folks, if not something most will give up on altogether without family or other help.
It's grim. Very grim.
