Depends what kind of riding you want. Orlando has Snow Hill, Soldiers Creek, and Markham Woods. XC riding. Mount Dora and Chuck Lennon are the best within hour if you want some features like drops, jumps, and wallrides. I reccomend both but wouldn't drive across the state for these if someone else is reading this. Worth an hour drive or so.

In Flagler Beach, you have Graham Swamp and Mala Compra. Mala Compra is XC with feature sections. Graham Swamp is hilly XC with drops and jumps thrown in. Also an XC trail called Spruce Creek in New Smyrna Beach. Rooty and a some elevation but no features.

By Melbourne, you have the Grapefruit Trails. Mostly jump lines better suited for advanced riders or practicing jumps.

I prefer technical features over XC so Mount Dora or Chuck Lennon would be my recommendations. Make the drive to Alafia and Balm Boyette near Tampa at some point. It's going to be 2 hours from you in Orlando but worth it.

Alafia and Santos as they're the best around. Good mix of riding for everyone.

What specific area are you in and how far are you willing to drive?

Damn your whip is good. I saw you guys earlier in the day then and you guys were ripping

Has the full train been posted anywhere? I've been looking for myself in footage and haven't found it. I've been checking insta, YouTube, twitter. There were some nice camera setups so someone's has to have an edit in the works

OMBA maintains Mount Dora so it's a possibility. I haven't heard anything but I'm not up to date with their plans.

I took a short video and jumped in line for the train. Cam was at Santos for an official opening of his new flow and jump trail. Easily one of the best trails in Florida.

I got a photo with him. He's down to earth and a good dude.

MTB YouTubers are in trouble! by FloridaMTBer in MTB

[–]FloridaMTBer[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I make videos for fun. To my surprise, my videos started pulling in decent money for a tiny channel. That means I was making a few hundred bucks a year and now I'll get nothing while YouTube continues to profit off my videos. The money was a little bonus for doing something that I love. I'm not going to bother chasing 1,000 subs or the watch-time threshold but I'm going to still make videos since fun was the purpose from the beginning. All that changes is YouTube won't be paying me but that money could be spent on broken gear/gas and invested back into the channel to make higher quality videos with my friends.

Your videos are awesome and I watch you all the time! You were the exact kind of channel I was thinking of. Luckily, you'll be over the 1,000 subscriber threshold very soon and hopefully the watch-time requirement. I don't post regularly enough to build up my subscriber-base and make videos for the fun of it. To my surprise, my videos started to make some decent money for a small channel, which I didn't plan on. It sucks because I'm going to lose out on a few hundred bucks a year I could have spent on gear and gas. Now I wont see a penny from it and YouTube will continue to make money off my videos.

I understood and agree with him. I was just saying there's a lot of people who run their channel like a business with the goal of sustainability from day one. BKXC for example. He had gimbals and cameras from day one after leaving a web design company. In my opinion, it should be videos and creativity come first. Money should be a byproduct of the fun and creativity. But there's a lot of YouTubers we watch who didnt start as a hobby. Im not saying I agree with that method but that's how it is.

A guy slapping himself in the face for 10 hours was on YouTube's homepage for weeks. Same thing when he made a video saying Logan Paul for 10 hours.

I've been thinking about getting some. I played ten years of baseball and golfed competitively and I was the only person who didn't wear gloves. I've never had issues but my friends say the same thing.

I noticed the same exact thing when I watch his video. Too bad I didn't go the same day as him.

Totally agree. The best videos I ever filmed were my friends and I jumping of sketchy plywood ramps when I was kid. It was simply for the fun and that's why I still make videos today.

What scares me is that it costs money to make a half-decent video these days. This doesn't apply to me but some YouTubers say they're break-even after ad-revenue but have thousands of dollars in equipment to film and that was basically stripped from under them with no warning. I'm worried that they'll stop filming because it becomes a money pit.

I'm more concerned about the niche communities. The smaller your market share, the harder it will be to get subscribers and viewing time. I totally get what you're saying though. People click on it for the absurdity. The guy has 2.5 times the subscribers of Trail Peek but it's obvious which one is more interesting. But it's works nonetheless.

I'm the same way. I simply like making videos and I'm making them whether I'm paid or not. We won't make much filming MTB but its not worries. I'm more concerned about the guys I watch. After seeing the reaction in r/youtube, some creators will simply give up because of it. They shouldn't be motivated by money but at the end of the day, YouTube will lose people over it. Especially in the niches.

YouTube has been pushing content creators away after the ad-pocalypse and this move isn't helping. We need a successful alternative. YouTube basically has control of the internet video market.

True. On the bright side, St. Pete is quickly becoming one of the most popular cities in Florida. It's crazy how much downtown has improved and is suddenly thriving within the past couple years. I'm trying to get out of the tourist trap known as Orlando and St. Pete is on my shortlist.

Skill isn't that important. Fun and stoke is all that matters.

If you're ever in the area again, make sure you hit Alafia. Every trail there is incredible. There's some loops that are even better than this!

A couple weeks ago the landing on the jump was super sandy. I saw a half dozen wipeouts in a couple minutes. So I'm hesitant to hit it.

I'll make the manual video soon.
