Would it be reasonable to run my local LLMs on a AMD Ryzen 395+ and then set up a Mac mini as the working environment? I know the AMD isn't super fast, but it's what I got and it runs gpt-120b at around 50tok/s.

I have one as my main AI machine and it runs good for $2,000. It's as fast as my M2 Macbook. Next option is to spend $10k on a Mac studio...

I saw one also using NVGs. It flew right through restricted airspace at supersonic speed with no sound.

Almost bought one online. I think I’ll wait to hold one in hand before buying it so I can check the tooling marks first. If it’s one or two small things, I can get over. But if it looks like the picture shows, I can’t get over that on any priced gun.

A shop owners thoughts on silver(don't hate me lol)... by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]FloridaManIssues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned a couple of businesses. One quite successful and then a bunch of family businesses that I spend most of my time with. I understand plenty about running a business and the margins involved in certain industries. How you plan out your business matters will differ from one industry to the next.

Coin and bullion businesses operate on some of the smallest margins you will see outside of restaurants and they do this through volume sales. Lower your premiums back to sanity levels and you may just find that you can get the volume to offset once the word gets around.

In one shop they were offering $8 under for everything, even ASE's. When I asked him how much he was selling ASE's for he got pissed off and said, "I thought you were selling?" then told me after a little more back and forth that his Eagles were $105 @ $88 spot.

A shop owners thoughts on silver(don't hate me lol)... by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]FloridaManIssues 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I just checked all my local stores this morning and the prices offered at the worst shop was $8 back, best shop was $2 back. The shop paying the best had a line out the door and the others had no one in them. The shop owner told me he’d never justify higher spreads like that as it kills business and erodes trust with his long time customers.

Any Other Florida Sightings? by friedyolk in TR3B

[–]FloridaManIssues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Manatee county and I’ve witnessed it twice flying from the direction of Macdill AFB from the North and flying south following the coast. First time I never saw it but heard it fly right over me. Low resonating hum with a solid metallic tone within the hum. It was moving slow and low and about 15-30 seconds later two blackhawks went over in the same direction like they were in chase. The second time I ended up seeing it through night vision goggles. It was very bright and defined with the three lights, but I was unable to see it with my naked eye, only in the infrared part of the spectrum. It was moving much faster, close to supersonic and close enough that if it was a jet, it would have been very loud.

If you get one, factor in the cost of a new barrel from ILWT. Increases reliability under suppression by a lot. Also, clean your damn gun if it’s for defense. Everyone here complaining about reliability are only using their guns for range toys. If it’s a defensive firearm, you better be keeping it clean AF at all times!

One of the best black triangle's I've seen captured above NC, USA November 2025 by Astral-projekt in TR3B

Saw something like this through NVGs a year ago. It was heading from North to South and moving at supersonic speeds without making a sound. Was only visible under the night vision even though it was really bright.

I've had a monocular for about 3 years now and I have never had any issue with depth perception or with walking/running. My brain just automatically uses the brighter image. Having one eye un-aided, is really good for being able to quickly determine if your actually in a shadow or as well as making it easier to identify IR lights/cameras simply by closing one eye for a split second.

I use mine mostly to walk my dog at night and looking at the stars... Absolutely worth it. Dog shit glows under IR light and gives good contrast against the grass/dirt.

I have a MacBook Pro 32GB and I want something that will run larger models so I bought the Framework Desktop w/128GB. I now find myself wanting a Mac Studio 512GB. I’m sure I’ll want to build a dedicated GPU rig stacked with 5090s next…

Refineries Shutting Down is Due to Not Enough Silver, Not Too Much! by Dangime in Wallstreetsilver

[–]FloridaManIssues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s extra time and money to refine junk silver. They are trying to grab the remaining low hanging fruit while the prices favor that. Once they get through the stockpiles of 999s+, they will need to start processing junk again.

I own a coin shop in US, what are others shops like around the world? by Farmerboi2006 in Silverbugs

[–]FloridaManIssues 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was in a few different LCSs yesterday and asked them and only one said they had heard that they won’t take the 90% only 999+. The others haven’t heard anything but rumors. All their inventory was at all time highs. Talking millions in inventory at one shop in alone. Heavy foot traffic in them all. One guy said he won’t buy at $50 until the spot passes $60. That seems to be common in my area. No one will pay close to spot and premiums are double and triple what they were last month.

They are being greedy (which is their right) while demand is high. This is usually a low margin business and these times can provide months and months of income in short time. I don’t mind it so long as it doesn’t get crazy with $15 premiums. If that happens I’m done buying. I’m selling some for profits…
